Fright Flick Friday Halloween Speicals

Wow, we burned through yet another week, is it me, or is this October flying by way to fast? Watched a wide range of specials along with a few frights flicks this week. I feel like growing up during the holidays has been the hardest part. And now that my kids are getting older sitting and watching those old cartoons gets a little sadder. Yet this week my youngest asked to keep up with one of those traditions by watching a few of those Halloween specials. Sure we never get too old for Charlie Brown or Garfield but I pledge I will never get too old to watch the newer shows as well. So this week's list is a hodgepodge of Halloween goodness, oh and some real dud's as well.

Wrapped in an orange or black wrapper and smelling like fake peanut butter...

 Toxic Tutu 2017 Amazon Prime

THE ALMOST TRUE STORY OF WHAT BECAME OF THE TOXIC AVENGER’S MARK TORGL

Follow Mark Torgl star of 1984’s The Toxic Avenger who played “Melvin The Mopboy” and transforms into Toxie, as he attends the Monster Convention circuit for the first time. Discover the convention world through Torgl’s eyes, and learn a deep dark secret that has kept Torgl in hiding for 30 years.

God what a dud! I had high hopes for this one, they really sold it as a Convention documentary but instead, we get some poor lame movie. And I feel bad saying this as this was the director's last movie before losing his battle with cancer. If your a Toxic fan skip this!

Friday the 13th 1980 Scream Factory BluRay Box Set

THEY WERE WARNED…THEY ARE DOOMED…AND ON FRIDAY THE 13TH, NOTHING WILL SAVE THEM.

Camp counselors are stalked and murdered by an unknown assailant while trying to reopen a summer camp that was the site of a child’s drowning.

This Scream Factory Box set is amazing and the restored picture on part one is fantastic! Still holds up after all these years. And the special features so far top notice.

 Let's Stick Together 1952 Disney+

An elderly bee, seeing an equally elderly Donald Duck in the park, looks back on their long partnership. The bee started helping Donald pick up trash, then using his sharp stinger to increase sales for balloon vendor Donald, then as a tattoo artist, and finally doing embroidery. After a particularly demanding tapestry, the bee asks for time off, and Donald shows him to a custom-built greenhouse. In there, along with lots of lovely flowers, and moreover, a lady bee. This obviously causes some problems in the relationship with Donald.

No Little Witch 1999 VHS

A young witch finds her desire to use her powers for good at odds with her aunts’ traditional mean ways. Little Witch’s wish to make new friends changes one Halloween night. Cute once, can be seen on TubiTv as well.

No Dr. Pyckle and Mr. Pryde 1925

Stan Laurel before Laurel and Hardy, in this “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde"-inspired story, which was released 30 July 1925. The creaky pacing makes it a little tough to sit through, though I do love the idea of a Mr. Hyde figure running through town playing pranks on people. Such atrocities include stealing ice cream cones & shooting spitballs once his darker half assumes control. It’s cute & certainly amusing.

The Old Mill 1937 Disney+

We see the various birds, mice, and bats that have moved into an old windmill, followed by the frogs, crickets, and fireflies making their music in an adjacent pond. Then a storm comes, shaking loose parts in the mill and threatening everything we’ve seen.

Man, I loved this short, its eerie dark feel is perfect for a cool autumn night! If you have Disney+ this is worth your seven minutes.

Trick or Treat 1952 Disney+

Donald’s nephews come by for Halloween and play tricks on them. But Witch Hazel was watching and offers to help the boys get even. She brews up a potion that animates inanimate objects and sics them on. He initially agrees to treat the boys, until he hears the witch call him a “pushover”. She animates his feet to get him to cough up the key to his pantry.

Still one of my all-time favorites and one I watch every year, this year I watched a much cleaner version than my old VHS tape thanks to Disney+! And now to get that song out of my head...

Doll Graveyard 2005 Full Moon DVD

REBORN FOR REVENGE

It’s 1905 when 12-year-old Sophia plays all by herself in her big, creepy house with only four handmade dolls as friends. When her abusive father has finally had enough, he forces her to bury them in the backyard. But, after she “slips” and breaks her neck, dad buries her right along with the dolls. 100 years later, the Fillbrook family moves into the very same house.

Not the strongest in the Full Moon catalog but this was right around the time of the studios rebuild. Decent idea, not a bad cast just a much slower burn than we needed. I always turn to Full Moon for something to watch when you do not want to use your brain and this one fits that bill.

13 Nights of Elvira: Hobgoblins 2014 Amazon Prime

Elvira’s couch is infested with pesky little critters who are clearly Gremlin rejects. The only way she’s gonna get rid of them is to endure this flick.

Extra cheese on this no-budget oddity! Still, this had just enough fun to keep me interested in what most call the worst movie ever made. Now it's not good but it's bad, it can be fun if you just let your mind go. I have such a soft spot for low-budget movies ugh.

Killjoy's Psycho Circus 2016 DVD

WELCOME, MY FRIENDS. TO THE SHOW THAT NEVER ENDS.

Killjoy, the demon of vengeance, trickster god, and killer clown has finally made it to Earth! Along with his gruesome crew Freakshow, Punchy, and the sexy/psychotic Batty Boop, Killjoy is free to terrorize mortals in new and excruciating ways.

Again looking for some fast fun and turned to Full Moon once again. This one finishes up the Killjoy series for me. This was not bad and of course, set itself up for yet another ride.

Super Monsters: Dia de los Monsters 2020 Netflix

The Super Monsters celebrate Día de Los Muertos in Vida's hometown with her magical family, some new monster friends, and a spooktacular parade.

We have really enjoyed these light-hearted Halloween specials in the past years, sadly this time around this one was dull. The animation and colors are beautiful the story was just a little slow. Not sure too many kids in the targeted age range would sit through this one.

A-Go-Go Cory Carson Halloween 2020 Netflix

Cory, Chrissy, and Freddie are on the hunt for king-sized candy bars this Halloween! But are all the treats worth the trek to the spooky side of town?

Now this one is fun and should be enjoyed by all ages as we have all been in this situation! How far will you push your fears for that full-size chocolate goodness? My youngest and I really enjoyed this one such a fun story.

Not a bad week at all, filled a portion of my time catching up with Halloween Specials and peppering in a few Horror Flicks that just fit the mood. Next week my plan is to clean up a backlog of Halloween gem's that I have been trying so hard to watch. Plus fill in some space with classic's that need a revisit.

Hope everyone has taken a moment to go outside and enjoy the crisp are and fall colors! But once inside make sure to travel the globe for all kinds of Halloween Treats over at the Countdown To Halloween page!

  1. Out of those, I think I have only seen Disney's Trick or Treat. I love that one.
