Happy Halloween Everybody!! Wow-what a great day, we started at 11:30 in the morning with free Jersey Mikes for the kids to Trunk or Treat at the collage. Free Crapes, Hot Chocolate, Carmel Apples, and of course Trick or Treating.
Well over 500 cars showed up for Truck or Treat I sure hope they had enough. I really hope to get the video done this week. A little bummed at how many houses did not have lights on but were pleased with the interesting ways to hand out candy. For a COVID year, we sure made the best of it!
Good-natured but eccentric community volunteer Hubie Dubois finds himself at the center of a real murder case on Halloween night. Despite his devotion to his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts (and its legendary Halloween celebration), Hubie is a figure of mockery for kids and adults alike.
Lessons Learned
A few weeks back I posted the trailer for Hubie and thought ugh this looks so bad, yet most of the comments were pretty upbeat. I'm here to say I was wrong and I'm sorry Hubie Halloween was pure joy and none stop fun! Now I will say I groaned a bit when Adam Sandler starting talking in voice for his charter and thought to myself oh no here we go. Thankfully that would quickly fade as the story began to unfold. And to be completely honest its the star power of its young cast that draws you in not the Happy Madison gang.
Hubie
Hubie himself had a nice charm to him this poor man was both obsessed with and terrified by Halloween. He also plays the local snitch, acting as an amateur cop and alerting the authorities to every tiny infraction, which they find unbearable. “Hubie” is, to some extent, a satire of horror films, as for Sandler, like him or not, his dumb schtick is disarmingly quiet and warm throughout the movie. Sadly his best jokes really do not have much to do with Halloween and that is ok.
Bonner
Every Holiday season I start to think of my mom and how much she would do for everybody to make the holidays incredible. Then walks in the wonderful June Squibb who plays Hubies mom, whom he still lives with, and in every scene, she unknowingly wears an inappropriate secondhand T-shirt that becomes some of the best gags like “Boner Killer” as the movie plays on. This was so my mom always happy and would wear or say things like this and even she did not understand. Squibb warmed my heart every time she lite up the screen man I loved this woman!
A New Tradition
Sandler has had a rough go with critics, often for good reason. But “Hubie Halloween” proves that the problem isn’t that he’s starring in stupid movies; it’s that he’s not starring in enough of the right stupid movies. It's safe to say Hubie Halloween will be watched yearly here in the Man Cave! Maybe I'm over-hyping a little bit but man we all loved this movie.
Oh, and speaking of those Disney stars it was a sweet touch that this movie was dedicated to Cameron Boyce. Boyce was going to appear in the movie before his untimely death on July 6, 2019. He would have reunited with his former co-stars Peyton List and Karan Brar from Disney Channel's Jessie (One show I can tolerate) as well as his former co-stars from Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2.
Definitely give this one a shot and by all means, you need to check out AEIOU...And sometimes Why? blog post as he shared images from the set, as this was filmed in his neck of the woods.

Much different from most streaming services Tubi Tv is a free streaming site that is loaded with odd ball movies and Tv shows that are mixed in with big blockbusters. Beware though most "movies" will have adds. As for kid shows they seem to cut back on them or at times not show any. So I was perusing the site the other day and was surprised but they amount of fun Halloween themed content that was available. In true Man Cave style I have compiled a short list of titles that will get you in the Halloween spirit. Grab the remote, pop up some kettle corn lets get this season started!!
Halloween Jack O'Lantern (2019)
This spooky jack o'lantern is sure to light up your Halloween party, and prepare you for the ever-festive and frightening holiday. What you get is a one hour loop of Jack flickering in the night. Granted the soundtrack playing in the background is not the best so I suggest hitting the mute button and turn up the Monster Mash mix instead. This was fun to let play while we where doing homework the other day and again as we decorated the house.
The Dog Who Saved Halloween (2011)
Zeus & the Bannisters have moved into a new house, just in time for Halloween! Everything seems to be going well until they notice strange lights and sounds coming from neighbor Eli's (Lance Henriksen) house. George (Gary Valentine) takes it upon himself to find out what is going on, and enlists the help of an unlikely pair (lead by Dean Cain). After the trio and George's wife Belinda (Elisa Donovan) get trapped in the spooky house, only Zeus is left to save Halloween!
Can a movie go wrong with Lance Henriksen along with Dean Cain? With a Hallmark movie feel in fact if you look at director Pete Sullivan's list of movies he has directed you will see quite a few Hallmark Christmas Movies on that list. With being said if your a fan of made for TV feels this one is for you and the family.
Witches In Stitches (1997)
Hop aboard a broomstick for this tale of two dim-witted witches who accidentally turn their sister into a jack-o-lantern on Halloween...and that's just the beginning of the story. Join the silly sisters as they turn a typical suburban town topsy-turvy with their inept attempts to rescue their sister-turned-pumpkin on Halloween night. Watch them fly around town, go trick-or-treating for the first time, and pop in on a children's Halloween party.
Monsters Vs. Aliens (2009)
Probably the big hit on this list DreamWorks along with Reese Weatherspoon take us on a fun ride when a woman is transformed into a giant! After being struck by a meteorite on her wedding day of all things she becomes part of a team of monsters sent in by the U.S. government to defeat an alien mastermind trying to take over Earth. This motley crew of Monster misfits is called into action there job is to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction!
Thanks to the successes of Monsters vs Aliens we where treated to a new Halloween Special Monsters vs Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space that airs every year on network tv so make sure to be on the look out for it this year as well.
Witch's Night Out (1979)
It's time to revisit this 1979 Halloween Classic with the voice talents of Gilda Radner, Catherine O'Hara, and Fiona Reid. A witch, disgruntled by the fact that no one takes Halloween seriously anymore, decides to stir things up and disrupt the social gathering in her old house as well as turn a couple of kids who love monsters into actual monsters.
Most younger kids might be turned off by the animation style used to tell the story and may appeal to a tween audience looking for some more than the Great Pumpkin. You Can read my full review here.
So there you have it five kid friendly shows to kick off the Halloween season and they are free to watch. During the trying times of COVID entertain the kids this year can be a challenge. Coupled with other bloggers during the Countdown to Halloween I'm sure you will find many great ideas. Lets make 2020 a Halloween to remember!

Oh man, how are you witches and ghouls today? How was your Halloween? As always lately my girls kept me busy with Basketball games Broadway Backward and ugh Elf The Musical Practice. And that snow on Halloween wow just wow! In fact, our Trick or treat was moved to November 1st this year. So I sure with you today a few photos and of course this year's snowing Halloween video.
Lainey this year went as the Pizza Plant delivery driver delivery her best friend the slice of pizza.
She also took home first place in the costume contest!
Little miss Freshman did not want to go house to house to collect her loot but wanted to enjoy the day still walking around in her It's Raining Men outfit.
My wife and I got a little excited when Halloween was postponed thinking maybe we could finally go out on our Anniversary for the first time in 14 years. Welp, nope they called Elf practice instead oh well. Happy 21st Anniversary anyway my love.
I know this if our Halloween video from three years ago but sady I just got around to editing it this summer. Enjoy a small look at Halloween in our small sleepy town.
Sticking to the classics here is a nicely restored "Frankenstein's Cat" staring a very young Mighty Mouse. From 1942this animated short is the second cartoon short of the Mighty Mouse theatrical series, even if his name, and the series, at this point was Super Mouse.
A community of mice and birds are living and playing peacefully until the arrival of Frankensteins Cat. The Cat is nothing more than a mechanical cat who wants to eat so he picks a bird to take to his castle. All of the bird's friends follow the victim there but many are given electrical shocks when they confront the cat. A mouse who lives in a supermarket hears a distress signal on his radio and, after eating Limburger cheese, turns himself into the costumed superhero Mighty Mouse. As he flies to the castle, Mighty fights and defeats the mechanical cat as the head falls off and the bird escapes making possible another happy ending.
