Curse of the Werewolf
1961 | Color | 93 Minutes | 1.85:1 | UR | Horror | Mono | Hammer Studios

Director: Terence Fisher

Writers: Anthony Hinds

Stars:
Clifford Evans
Oliver Reed
Yvonne Romain

In Spain, Leon is born on Christmas day to a mute servant girl who was raped by a beggar. His mother dies giving birth and he is looked after by Don Alfredo. As a child, Leon becomes a werewolf after having been taken hunting. As a young man, he works in a wine cellar and falls in love with the owner's daughter Cristina. One full moon, he again turns into a werewolf and terrifies the town.

I have always liked this take on the Werewolf and its religious undertones. In fact, the movie's Spanish setting came from a backlot that was built for a Spanish Inquisition film. This film was not produced because the Catholic League of Decency threatened to ban it. For many this was also one of the best looking Werewolves even  though makeup artist Roy Ashton based his makeup for this film on Jack P. Pierce's makeup for The Wolf Man. The way this was filmed was always so cool to me the bold color's gorgeous woman and the whole Christmas Curse plot!

So make sure you tune in tonight “Curse of the Werewolf” will run at 10 pm eastern/pacific, 9 central, or check local listings for your area.

Ten years after his original massacre, the invalid Michael Myers awakens and returns to Haddonfield to kill his seven-year-old niece on Halloween. Can Dr. Loomis stop him?

I remember as a teen I could not wait to see a Michael Myers movie on the big screen. At the time, I remember liking part 4 for the most part but that was 1988! I also know we sold a lot of copy's when I worked for Suncoast Video  including the limited edition tin. So here I sit watching all the Halloween movies to celebrate FlashBack Weekend. Sad to say this movie, one of the most popular in the series, did not hold up for me.

Terror Gets Domesticated

Director: Gerard Johnstone

Writer: Gerard Johnstone

Stars:
Morgana O'Reilly
Rima Te Wiata
Glen-Paul Waru

Plot:
Kylie Bucknell is forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. Her punishment is made all the more unbearable by the fact she has to live there with her mother Miriam - a well-intentioned blabbermouth who's convinced that the house is haunted. Kylie dismisses Miriam's superstitions as nothing more than a distraction from a life occupied by boiled vegetables & small-town gossip. However, when she too becomes privy to unsettling whispers & strange bumps in the night, she begins to wonder whether she's inherited her overactive imagination, or if the house is in fact possessed by a hostile spirit who's less than happy about the new living arrangement.

I love when a horror movie comes along and it is like a breath of fresh air! This was one of those movies that the cover art and title make you stop and look. Well stop passing it by and watch this perfect gem already!

To do his dirty work, Vollin recruits a wanted criminal (Karloff) and turns him into a hideous monster to guarantee his subservience.

Halloween 3 Season of The Witch

Silver Shamrock, a mass-producer of Halloween masks, plan to kill millions of innocent people worldwide by placing pieces of a stolen boulder from Stonehenge into small tags and attaching them to the masks. When children all over the world sit down to watch the Silver Shamrock advertisement, terror and panic will spread. Dr. Dan Challis investigates a series of bizarre and horrifying incidents that begin to unfold before Halloween evening, and he comes face to face with the sinister figure of Conal Conhran, maker of the evil masks.

Ah yes, the Halloween movie that everybody loves to hate. Well, not this guy I love watching Halloween 3 just about every year. It is a great stand-alone Halloween movie. If more people would look at it as a movie about that wonderful night maybe more people would like it.

The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley

Lost Soul
2014 | Color | 97 Minutes | 1.66:1 | NA | Documentary | Dolby | Severin Films

Source: Netflix Streaming

Director: David Gregory

Stars:
Richard Stanley
Kier-La Janisse
Michael Gingold

Plot:
Behind the scenes chronicle of how a clash of vision, bad creative decisions, lack of interest and really bad weather plagued the disastrous production of the infamous 1996 remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Not a bad little doc about a crazy director wanting to make his vision of the Island of Dr. Moreau have it taken away from him right before the shoot. This movie really hits on the greed of big names and how they can rune everything. Richard Stanley has given us so cult gems with Dust Devil and Hardware and his vision for this movie would have been great.

The movie looks great and fills in the cracks of a doomed movie, but it still drags on at times. Most of the time after watching a documentary about a movie I'm willing to revisit the flick. After this tho I still did not care to watch Dr. Moreau.
