Breaking Svengoolie News

Our favorite ghoul Svengoolie his heading to the DC Universe this October! DC and MeTV are bringing fans one of the quirkiest pop-culture mashups of all time when SVENGOOLIE MEETS THE DC UNIVERSE, a series of custom inserts featured in DC comic books on sale throughout the month of October. Each two-page “chapter” will be written by DC Publisher and Svengoolie superfan Dan DiDio , with an assist from Svengoolie himself, plus art by Chris Jones.

“This is a dream come true for someone who’s been a life-long fan of DC super-heroes since I first got into comics as a kid,” says Koz. “I couldn’t be prouder to have Svengoolie standing side by side with these iconic characters. I definitely identify with them, too; after all, I have to put on my costume before I can do my job, too!”

On the run from (what else?) an army of homicidal rubber chickens, Svengoolie gets some unexpected help from Wonder Woman and John Stewart, who urge him to get to the Hall of Justice. But before he can make it to safety, he has to survive a showdown against the one responsible for these perilous pullets, The Joker!

You this guy has been pounding fingers on his Iphone makeing sure my comic book ordering friends know I need to get a hold of these so stay tuned this October for a complete review.

On October 31st, will Robin be able to tell the difference between real evildoers and costumed children, or will the kids get clobbered while the villains escape?! Then, on Thanksgiving, Batman and Robin join the families of Gotham City around the table for a holiday feast.

Fresh off of Comic-Con I found this little gem from 2013's Halloween ComicFest. The first thing that jumps out at me was the odd art style by Dustin Nguyen. For me, it was strange at first with the simple use of watercolor and crude drawing style. But once the story gets going you quickly lose
yourself in the book.

The story opens up with Robin not knowing it was Halloween, not sure what rock he came up from but let's roll with it ok? So being Halloween he starts to clubber the "Bad Guys" not understanding what was going on he relizes he is attacking children. So Batman goes on to teach him how to trick or treat.

By the last page, you are kind of bummed it's over, the fast read hits on a high note as the villains get to go out in pubic like normal people thanks to the holiday. After the first ten pages, we jump into the Thanksgiving story arch. During the Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Penguin release an attack of the turkeys. Soon our winged ones save the day and we are then treated to Robin being a little bratty at the family dinner table. **Sigh** come on Robin.

Batman Li'l Gotham Special Edition was a fun little holiday read but I'm not sure I could read to many of these if they stick to the watercolor art and Robin being a brat. The Halloween story was wonderful and Thanksgiving was worth the time put into it.

So Batbrains Batman Li'l Gotham Special Edition gets a simple

Comic Con Chicago 2019

It as still been a very crazy summer! I promise I will get back to posting soon! In the meantime check out my video for Chicago's Comic-Con.

And for a more tame look at Comic-Con check out my brother's video.

No Hammer. No Problem.

Thor Ragnarok
2017 | Color | 2 Hr 10 Min | Action | PG-13 | Marvel

Director:
Taika Waititi

Writers:
Eric Pearson
Craig Kyle

Stars:
Chris Hemsworth
Tom Hiddleston
Cate Blanchett

Synopsis: Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok, the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization, at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela.

Can I be honest for a moment I have not like a Thor movie yet. The first one was ok and the second one well a waste of time. So when the trailers for this one came out I was excited yet annoyed at the comedy aspect. This is a sad case of the trailer selling it wrong and Disney has a long list of movies that are good but the trailer made me skip past it and wait for home video. Sadly I wish that I would have seen this on the big screen as it is a beautiful looking movie.

Always love it when an independent director gets a shot at a big budget flick like this. Taika Waititi has made some of the most moving indies that I have seen lately. In fact "Hunt For the Wilder people" was the best movie I watched last year it really stuck with me. Waititi understands the power of storytelling and Thor finally got its story right. Waititi described the film as a "1970s and 80s science fiction fantasy, the most 'out there' of all the Marvel movies." He cited Big Trouble in Little China as a major influence on the film: "It's a fun adventure film that has big stakes, but also has a breakneck speed and takes you on a crazy adventure."

I know fanboys everywhere could not wait to finally see Thor Vs Hulk they have a long history together and the battle does not disappoint. Believe it or not, this was not the highlight of the film for me that goes to Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster he was by far my favorite part of this flick the man is pure gold! And still sexy as hell giving Chris Hemsworth a solid run for his money. And let's not skip out on Tessa Thompson who lit up the screen and stole the show with her pure beauty on screen. This cast gives the Guardian's of the Galaxy a little competition for best on-screen assemble. As for the Banner/Thor buddy movie that this proves to easily show that they could do a non-super hero buddy movie together and we would all go see it.

The movie is breathtaking dropping us into different lands seamlessly and with little effort. The story is solid fun and yeah funny in a good way.  I was really scared the comedy would take away from everything but it fit well and never takes you out of the story. Thor does a nice job keeping up with the Guardian's style right down to the music during big battle scenes. I mean come on who does not want to see a big battle to Zed Zepplins "Immigrant Song". This is noteworthy because Led Zeppelin is known for very rarely licensing out their music for use in feature films or television series. I also think its great that the Thor's "friend from work" line about the Hulk was suggested to Hemsworth by a Make-A-Wish child who paid a visit to the set on the day the scene was filmed.

Man, I had a blast watching Thor Ragnarok from the cast to the amazing director they finally got a Thor movie right!

4 Gauntlets out of 5

** again I should have watched this before Infinity War as some of it is starting to make more sense.
** You can see my review for Hunt for the Wilder people here.

Where will you be, when it all ends?

Avengers Infinity War

2018 | Color | 2 Hr 35 Min | Action | PG-13 | Marvel

Directors:
Anthony Russo
Joe Russo

Writers:
Christopher Markus
Stephen McFeely

Stars:
Robert Downey Jr.
Chris Hemsworth
Mark Ruffalo
Chris Evens

Synapsis: As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment - the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Hulk Iron Man Dr. Strange

With all the hype and buzz on social media like "Heart Stopping" to "I almost forgot to breathe" I was one of those fanboys that could not wait to see Infinity War. I made sure to skip on all spoilers (and hope to not post any here) and the night before I did some homework by watching Spiderman: Homecoming just to be up to speed. Was I ready to witness a billion dollar cinema onslaught of superhero goodness dam right I was!

He is so bad ass.

The Russo brothers, where a couple of guys know best for Arrested Development and Community are taking the wheel of this jargonaut made me wonder could they handle it? Well, they did nice work with Captin America: Winter Soldier but fell just a tad short on Civil War and in a few ways, they did tie the movies together well but... well... I have to go with NO.

Now, this is the Spidy I have been waiting for!

With a confusing plot that is all over the place in Infinity War, it takes you down a rabbit hole that when you come out on the other side your left wondering what the hell did I just see! Sometimes having too much going on can really take you out of the story.

James Hetfield are you ok? You look under the weather

The movie looks great CGI has come a very long way at times you just could not tell reality vs virtual reality and that was a nice change. All the charters look better than before all though aging rapidly (let's face it Tony Stark is not aging well and Bruce Banner well man they better wrap up these movies fast before Medicare kicks in for most of the staff.) But here comes the first really big issue for me, I hate when things take you out of the movie! Yes, I go to a movie to immerse myself into another world or place for a few hours. All I ask is to be entertained in the end to forget about life for awhile. Unfortunately a few times in this movie I felt I was watching a crossover of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and even some Harry Potter mash-up and spit out this really killed the mood on so many levels. Boy did it get on my nerves.

Are we on Naboo?
Now before I go off on this flick lets talk Thanos for just a moment shall we? Was I suppose to love him or hate him? He comes off so bad ass and wimpy at the same time! Suck it up you meathead you want to kill off 1/2 the population of the universe but you want to mope around? Grrrr! Maybe I'm wrong but when I was a kid reading about Thanos he wanted to wipe out everybody and if you worked for him and failed he quickly did away with you. He was such a bad ass in the comic in the movie I just wanted to give the poor guy a hug.  I will say this he looks incredibly cool like a James Hetfield of Metalica on steroids cool!

As for the action-packed movie that so many people talked about I have a question for you, did we see the same movie? The pace was so far off and up and down for me. The Russo brothers would give you a bit of action then long winded filler story followed by some action and well you get my point its a Star Wars movie pace in a Super Hero world. Not all is lost really its still a good movie but is it worth all the hype? Wait I got it! These movies are gaining popularity after 19 movies and 10 years those 8-year-old's that watched Iron Man is now 18 and cannot wait for these flicks and those that where say 18 are now 28 and bringing there kids its the only way I can explain why this movie has made so much money.

If you are not a comic book fan but need to see this year's big blockbuster do some homework first. Do not make the mistake of skipping the last Thor and Black Panther movies otherwise you might be confused like I was and maybe that is why I found myself not into Infinity War. In the end, my mind is torn I want to love this movie  I did enjoy myself so I will give the Thanos...

3 of his 6 Infinity Stones

So honestly what did you think? Comment below don't be shy to let me know how wrong I am.

With many people fearing the actions of superheroes, the government decides to push for the Hero Registration Act, a law that limits a hero's actions. This results in a division in The Avengers. Iron Man stands with this Act, claiming that their actions must be kept in check otherwise cities will continue to be destroyed, but Captain America feels that saving the world is daring enough and that they cannot rely on the government to protect the world. This escalates into an all-out war between Team Iron Man (Iron Man, Black Panther, Vision, Black Widow, War Machine, and Spider-Man) and Team Captain America (Captain America, Bucky Barnes, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and Ant Man) while a new villain emerges.

#OCanadaBlogathon

Ok signed up for the O Canada Blogathon in February. Wiki claims that the 1990 Captian America has ties to the Great White North so I picked that one. I have been looking for a reason to watch it as I have it on both VHS and DVD.

If you would like to head over to the official site to sign up for your blog click here!

I wanted Stange Brew one of my all time favorite movies so I'm looking forward to reading that blog along with The Fly, Scanners and Canadian Official War Films (First World War) just to name a few.

Who Killed Kurt Cobain?: The Story of Boddah

Who Killed Kurt Cobain?: The Story of Boddah

by Nicolas Otero

Diamond Book Distributors

IDW Publishing
Comics & Graphic Novels

The most iconic singer/songwriter of his generation, Kurt Cobain left behind a phenomenal body of work, legions of fans, and a mystery... a final letter addressed to "Boddah." Now, award-winning creator Nicolas Otero brings the story of this note to life in the original graphic novel WHO KILLED KURT COBAIN? Based on the French novel, Le Roman de Boddah by Heloise Guay de Bellissen, this adaptation - a work of fiction - recounts real-life events from Cobain's life, as narrated by his childhood imaginary friend, Boddah. Through the eyes of Boddah, readers get a front row seat to the highs and lows of one of the music's most influential voices like they've never experienced before. Trace the arc of modern rock's greatest icon from the dark clubs of Seattle to the bright lights of the world stage... and all the angst, horror, and thrill that came with that ride in this captivating graphic tale.

If you are a die hard fan of Kurt Cobain you just might love this graphic novel. The story for me was a little bit different as it follows the voice in his head, Boddah. The novel even has a copy of the letters he left to Boddah, including the final letter before departing this world.

Though I was not a fan of Grange Rock I will admit the Nirvana's first breakout song "Smells like teen spirt" was a different sound but a novelty for me. The music was odd so after reading this book I can understand a little bit better as to why.

The artwork and pace of the book are the highlights. You can easily loose yourself in the picture's that are cluttered with images just like Cobain's head.

The story really focuses around Courtney Love, Boddah, And of course Heroin.

So if you are a Kurt Cobain fan you will want to pick this book up. For me it was ok I learned a few new things. But it still did not change how I feel about the music or the band.

Who Killed Kurt Cobain? The Story Of Boddah will hit the store shelves November 1st, 2016.

In space, no one can hear Vampirella scream!

Holy Wackamoly the Powerpuff Girls are coming!

So even tho my last house party did not go so well (I will post that tomorrow) I just have to try my luck again with the NEW yes NEW PowerPuff Girls coming back to Cartoon Network! One of the questions asked was what charter does your child best identifies with well that was bubbles but now that she is older it would have to be Princes Morbucks! Even if we do not get this party I know we will be talking about it come April!!

So come on House Party you know you want to pick the Man Cave for this one!!

Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup are three super-powered sisters who use their extraordinary abilities to take down massive monsters, diabolical fashionistas, nefarious packrats, and any other menace that threatens their beloved home of Townsville. A rogues gallery of wild new villains and classic foes such as Mojo Jojo, Princess Morbucks and the Amoeba Boys are no match for our super-human siblings. Each girl is unique in both powers and personality: Blossom is the level-headed leader, Bubbles is everyone’s BFF, and Buttercup is the powerhouse tough girl. Evil Bong Comic!

So the Full Moon fans will jump up and down for the Movie Announcement in this video but for me all those Comic Book titles that are coming soon! I knew about Trancers but GingerDead Man and Evil Bong holy crap!! Here take my money!!

Charles Band is introduced by Action Lab to announce the new line of Trancers comics and more. Plus a new film announcement. And a cameo from Tiffany Shepis.

So here is the list of the 3 issue mini-series that they showed.
  1. Demonic Toys
  2. Oblivion
  3. Evil Bong
  4. Doctor Mordrid
  5. Killjoy
  6. Shadowzone
  7. Subspecies
  8. Trancers
Oh and yeah, they did say something about a new Puppet Master being shot this fall. Also, they mentioned 12 comics titles but only listed 8 so if you add in Puppet Master that's 9 so if you will I would like to speculate the others being Head of The Family, Shrunken Heads, and maybe Dollman? Only time will tell.
