You can't keep a good band down! Hard Rock Zombies

Hard Rock Zombies
1985 | Color | 98 Minutes | 1.37:1 | R | Horror | Vestron Video

Director: Krishna Shah

Writers:
David Allen Ball
Krishna Shah

Stars:
E.J. Curse (Bones)
Geno Andrews (Cold Play)
Sam Mann (Roller Blade Warriors)
Phil Fondacaro (Willow, Evil Bong)

A hard rock band travels to the tiny and remote town of Grand Guignol to perform. Peopled by hicks, rubes, werewolves, murderous dwarves, sex perverts, and Hitler, the town is a strange place but that doesn't stop the band's lead singer from falling in love with a local girl named Cassie. After Nazi sex perverts kill the band to satisfy their lusts, Cassie calls the rockers back from the grave to save her, the town, and maybe the world.

E.J. Curse music is  best known for his years as lead vocalist for Warlock and Bass Player for Doro Pesch  in the late '80s  he later pursued a solo career.

Originally Krishna Shah  meant for this movie to be about 20 minutes long and solely used as the feature movie in American Drive-In. At some point during production, the decision was made to invest a little bit more money and come out with two full length feature films instead of just one.

Of course this movie was horrible but as a young 15 year old who could pass up on the great cover art! And any thing with Zombies and Hard Rock music has to be a win. Unfortunately the music was more pop then Metal total bummer. If you have never seen this '80's cheese fest its worth a look only if you like the simple times of Zombie movies from the '80's. Check out the trailer and don't miss  the great song "Na Na Na" right after.

Music Monday Falling Still

Falling Still has released an official video for their track “Stupid Girl”, which comes off their upcoming self-titled EP ( Feb. 26th). Killjoy himself Trent Haaga pulled up the directors chair along with bringing Killjoy goes to Hell alum Jessica Whitaker along for the ride.

Lead Singer Eric Podnar commented that "Stupid Girl"  is a song about a misbegotten soul cracking under the pressure of a scrutinizing world.  “The clip was inspired by a very specific kind of girl that often emerges in LA. In most cases, they’re aspiring actresses or models or musicians who become dangerously intent on self-preservation through any means necessary. They’re typically fucking crazy and never short on vices or dependencies. Our video is a public service announcement about the dangers of getting involved with these types of individuals. It’s not pretty.”

This is Trent Haags third video for Falling Still.

Beware! Terror strikes in the night!

While on a botanical expedition in Tibet Dr. Wilfred Glendon is attacked in the dark by a strange animal. Returning to London, he finds himself turning nightly into a werewolf and terrorizing the city, with the only hope for curing his affliction a rare Asian flower.

Well what a film to end Furry February. The film that inspired Warren Zevon's hit song of the same name. You know you just went Aaaaa-ooooo in your head..And according to film historian's Jack Pierce's eerie werewolf make-up was simpler than his version six years later for Lon Chaney, Jr., in The Wolf Man. This was also the first mainstream werewolf movie.

Hansel & Gretel Get Baked is one of three different film adaptations of classic fairy tale Hansel and Gretel released in 2013 And looks like the most fun. A little bit Evil Bong meets Gingerdead Man! The movie does not look to bad I'm sure they will push to have this out for rental and sell through by April 20th. In the mean time check out the trailer and a few stills.

Q is coming!

With our first big snow of the year coming today I can't help to wonder is it Halloween yet? And why the heck do we name snow storms now? No Really we have nothing better to do!

I do feel really bad that I'm now 2 episode's behind in The Walking Dead. My friends at work see me coming and walk the other way they don't want to ruin it for me. I will admit it I'm a little bored with it but maybe once I get caught up things will be better.

Truly can not wait for Bates Motel to start. And is it wrong the I like that King of the Nerds show??

Oh well its almost Baseball season and real TV will start and I wont have to worry about silly little shows. Now to go find my shovel have not seen it yet this year.

A little VHS love for you today. Thought it was a good piece to share during Lent. This is the UK version here in the states it was known as The Witch.

In Spain, Leon is born on Christmas day to a mute servant girl who was raped by a beggar. His mother dies giving birth and he is looked after by Don Alfredo. As a child Leon becomes a werewolf after having been taken hunting. As a young man, he works in a wine cellar and falls in love with the owner's daughter Cristina. One full moon, he again turns into a werewolf and terrifies the town.

I'm not big on Hammer films but I did watch this one the fist time around on Svengoolie. With all the hype about it being on of the best werewolf movies I felt the needed to check it out. And I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The back story was very well done. Oliver Reed played the part exceptionally well. His acting in the movie almost begs for me to watch more Hammer Horror Films.  The makeup in this film  was based on Jack P. Pierce's work on Lon Chaney's The Wolf Man. And I will agree it is one of the better looking Wolf Men we see on the big screen.

So if you have not seen this one yet and your a fan of Lon Chaney's Wolf Man tune in tonight and you be the judge on witch one is better.

For me I give Curse of the Werewolf  3 bloody brains.

Wizard Video Finds Lost VHS Tapes

With VHS the new Vinyl in the collecting world Charles Band dropped a bomb shell (Or should I say Clam Shell) on the fans Thursday with the announcement that they have found some highly sought after VHS tapes.

LOS ANGELES, CA, Feb 7, 2013 – Horror legend and home video pioneer Charles Band had been putting off his warehouse cleaning for years. But during a recent overhaul of his extensive collection of collectibles, he unwittingly resurrected a veritable treasure trove of vintage horror limited-edition VHS boxes coveted by horror fans and serious collectors. Starting February 12, fans will be able to purchase these original boxes with authentically duplicated VHS copies inside – at an incredibly reasonable price.

“Back in the 80’s, I thought it would be cool to release these films in the oversize VHS boxes,” explained Band. “In the short term, it was very successful - but by 1982 the trend had run its course and the titles were reduced back to regular VHS dimensions.”

Band started Wizard Video in 1980, and was the first to release horror cult films such as Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I Spit On Your Grave in the early days of home video.

“The kids who remember these oversized packages remember them fondly,” Band continued. “The release of this collection is for them.”

Over a span of 3-4 years, Wizard Video published eighty titles in the large-format boxes. Thirty-five years after the packaging’s popularity died out, Band and his excavation team uncovered the original big VHS boxes of thirty-six of these rare titles in mint condition, between two hundred to four hundred copies per title. Each box will be hand-numbered on the spine and autographed by Charles Band and will include an authentically duplicated VHS copy of the film inside of a clamshell holder. Band estimates that very few of these rare videos are still in print – and no more than 5-10 thousand units were manufactured at the time.

But wait here is some really cool news:

Also found in the collection were original boxes of the first horror video games on the planet, from Wizard Video’s sister company, Wizard Video Games. The Atari 2600 game boxes for Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween will be released TBD 2013 from Full Moon. At the time of release, these titles were deemed too violent for children, and were either banned or sold by request-only, making them an extraordinarily rare find as well.
For more information check out  www.Wizardvideocollection.com

Band will release four tiles  every month beginning February 12, at $50 a piece. Other tiles will be Headless Eye, Breeders, I Spit on your Grave and  Parasite. Sure will be looking forward to the Atari Games when they are released and when more information is brought forth. All I know is all those VHS enthusiast are going crazy as Wizard is one of the most collected out their.

Ooga Booga and Unlucky Charms

Full Moon has announced that Charles Band is hopping back into the director's chair for their next movie "Unlucky Charms". Pre-production has already begun, with principal photography beginning at the end of the month. Stayed tuned here at the Cave for more details when they become available. Unlucky Charms is set to release late Spring of 2013.

Joined by Lisa's free-spirited sister, Joyce (Sackhoff, TV's Battlestar Galactica), the family soon comes face-to-face with a bone-chilling mystery born of a deranged desire...a haunting secret rising from underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path.

Finally!

Shout Factory has revealed that they are planning to release a combo pack edition of director Sam Raimi's Crimewave (1985), starring Louise Lasser, Brion James, and Paul L. Smith. Exact technical specs and supplemental features to be included with this release are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary street date set by the distributors is May 14th.

The Coen brothers team up with horror director Sam Raimi to produce this serial killer spoof. When Detroit pest exterminators Crush and Coddish decide to expand their operation to include the disposal of humans, their best-laid plans soon go awry as the firm's body count escalates out of control.

For Bruce Campbell and Sam Ramie fans this is the missing link the jewel of the collection! Now all we need is Lunatics a love story on Blu Ray or DVD and we will be set! Thanks Shout Factory

The Lords of Salem Official Trailer

Heidi, a blonde rock chick, DJs at the local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the ‘Big H Radio Team’. A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, “a gift from the Lords”. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords’ record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later, Whitey plays the Lords’ record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting; the original Lords of Salem are returning, and they’re out for BLOOD.

Ugh after watching the trailer some of the excitement just left the room. Still think they should hold off until Halloween not April 19th.
