VHS Wednesday with the Duckmen

From the flooded timber of Louisiana to the corn fields of Washington State and on to Montana, join the family of Duckmen as they pursue their first love- DUCKS. Ok, Ok calm down and admit it most of you watched the train wreck tv show Duck Dynasty. I don't watch much TV and I watched the dang show. So when I found an odd looking VHS tape with them on it before they were stars I thought hey why not! The first five minutes fills the screen with ducks floating in the air and then suddenly falling from the sky. At first I thought hey not bad these boys can really shoot. Then more of the same for almost ten minutes now. Hmm, I'm not much of a hunter and I seem to have been wrong about this tape.

Oh my Darling Oh My Darling Oh My Darling Clementine

Not sure how I stumble on to this little gem but I sure loved Huckleberry Hound when I was a kid. And of course, the collection before me has the classic's Postman Panic and Barbeque hound. What a treat to sit back and watch this on VHS. The tape has held up great no drop outs or tracking issues to be had. I do beleave a few of these have made their way to DVD. The other two episodes are Hokum Smokum you know the one with the little Indian. Still made me laugh watching!

Put out in 1987 from Kids Klassics and WorldVision has a run time of 28 minutes.

Now if I can find the one with Jekyll and Hyde I will be a happy camper.

This tape as a value of $17.93 right now so rock on!

Plot:

This documentary treats movie fans to a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the live-action film adaptation of the popular comic book and animated series. Included are interviews with the cast and crew who share their experiences from making the film, as well as discuss the efforts that went into it.

Sometimes it is amazing what 25 cents will get you even if you never knew it existed. Even better when you run into something that is never been released on DVD. Although this is a documentary and rather silly I could easily see a 10-year-old really enjoying this. In fact judging by the drop outs on this tape, it was watched a few times. It has a run time of 30 minutes but the adult me was getting a little board around the 15-minute mark. It gets a little silly and grows old pretty fast.

I will give the concept of the Tour some street cred the Turtles look pretty cool. They do not come off as rubber suits and the lips move somewhat to the song. Speaking of the songs they are not to shabby. A solid mix of Trixter meets early 90's power rock. In fact, I could handle the solid called hit single "You Can Count on Me". Glad I watched it but now it will sit on my shelf for a bit before I try to sell it. This VHS fetches $24.44 in good shape so I would put my copy at $11.89 price.

Plot:

Stimpy's First Fart

Long before South Park we had the loveable idiot Ren and Stimpy. And if you have not seen their classic Christmas special where Stimpy loses his Son which is a fart then you have not lived!

When Stimpy farts, he believes that he has given birth. He tells Ren about the incident and tries to fart in front of him to show him what happened, but it fails. When Ren refused to believe him, Stimpy relentlessly tries to find his fart, "Stinky." Stimpy first tries a Santa charity worker he sniffs his butt, but he can't find him, then he tries posters but no one is interested, next he tries the police he tells them of his missing "son" Stinky and describes him to a sketch artist annoyed with this the artist throws outside, Stimpy thinks he smells Stinky but it turns out to be manure Mr. Horse is selling, saddened by this he gives up and lies on the street where a car runs over his head. Stinky, as it turns out, is actually alive and is looking for Stimpy, but he can't find him since he's lying unconscious under the car, Stinky takes refuge between Stimpy's buttocks because they smell as bad as he does, but they notice the smell and try to kill him with matches so he hides in the sewer.

Meanwhile Ren is celebrating Christmas but he is depressed since Stimpy isn't there and he sadly takes out a present he got Stimpy and sings Christmas carols to himself while tearing up, he hears the doorbell and sees Stimpy frozen in a block of ice, Ren is overjoyed and brings Stimpy inside to thaw him out, Ren tries to make him feel better but he's still upset that he can't find Stinky, after some time the doorbell rings and Ren are shocked that Stinky actually exists so he brings him inside, Ren informs Stimpy that he has a visitor. He tells him he doesn't care until Ren gets him to sniff his finger which has Stinky's scent on it, Stimpy and Stinky are happy to be reunited, Stimpy tells him that they can be together forever but Stinky says they can't because he's grown up and engaged to Cora a rotting fish head, Stimpy marries them and they live in Ren's nose which he is not happy about.

"Son of Stimpy" made its home video debut on the Have Yourself a Stinky Little Christmas VHS, released by Sony Wonder on September 21, 1993. The video also contained music videos of the songs "Fleck the Walls" and "Cat Hairballs" from the album Ren & Stimpy's Crock O' Christmas.

This will forever live in my VHS collection! Here are the bonus songs from the tape that are available on CD that yes I own.

Jack Deth is a trooper in Angel City, circa 2247, mopping up the last of the disciples of the Martin Whistler. Whistler uses his psychic power to 'trance' those with weak minds and force them to obey his every desire. Whistler had been thought to be dead by now, but he's alive and well, and in the year 1985. Whistler's plan - to hunt down the ancestors of the City Council. With the Council disbanded, nothing is to stop Whistler from controlling the city. That's where Jack Deth fits in. Jack is sent back in time by inhabiting the body of his ancestor. The only problem is that Whistler's ancestor is a police detective, and he's begun trancing people back in 1985. With the help of Lena, a strong-minded punk rock girl, he must find and protect Hap Ashby, a former baseball pitcher now living on Skid Row, and face Whistler in a final confrontation.

It's hard to believe that this movie is 30 years old. And still stands strong today. And what many forget is that it takes place during Christmas. In fact one of the best scenes in Helen Hunt getting ready for work helping a mall Santa. Which in return leads to a great battlesequence at center court of the mall. This movie was so far ahead of its time I amazed that it has not been remade yet to date.

The movie has been released on VHS, DVD, Fullmoon Streaming, and now available on Blu-Ray. With a strong cast and great visuals Trancers will put a little Ho Ho Ho in your Sci-Fi Christmas. No need for the Hallmark Channel when you have Jack Death!

For me Trancers gets...

End of The World VHS Throw Back

Prof. Andrew Boran (Kirk Scott) is a research scientist who discovers strange radio signals in space that appear to originate from the Earth. The signals seem to predict natural disasters occurring around the globe.

When he and his wife (Sue Lyon) decide to investigate the source of the signals, they end up being held captive in a convent that's been infiltrated by aliens. These invaders plan to destroy the world with the natural disasters. As the human, Father Pergad and alien leader Zindar (Christopher Lee) explain - the Earth is a hotbed of disease that cannot be permitted to continue polluting the galaxy.

End of the World is the 4th Movie in the Charles Band Productions. The movie is currently available at Full Moon streaming.

Crash!

Next up in the Charles Band catalog is 1977's Crash. I don't know much about this one but it looks pretty fun and your typical 70's car movie. It was also very hard to find a VHS cover so the poster and half of the cover is going to do this week.

Crash! (1977) -- Jose Ferrer is a bitter, wheelchair bound (sort of) expert in antiquities. Sue Lyon is his much younger wife. He holds her responsible for being in the wheelchair due to an auto accident. When an ancient Hittitte idol comes into their lives, they both now have the power to wreak vengeance on each other. He attacks her, she tries to get away and crashes her car. His dog attacks her, but doesn't kill her. She ends up in the hospital with amnesia, the only clue to her identity the evil idol, which she holds in a death grip.

Can the kindly nurse and hunky doctor treating her find out her identity before its too late? Meanwhile, thanks to the cursed idol, her driverless car goes on a rampage, causing accident after accident and explosion after explosion, tormenting the local sheriff's department in whatever podunk town this was filmed in (the end credits state "filmed in Los Angeles" but that's true only in the loosest possible definition of the term).

This was the only VHS cover I could find from Charles Bands 1977 Sex comedy. So here is the poster.

What happens is so horrifying we can't even hint at it in this poster.

So this year I'm going to try and tackle VHS Wednesday a little different. I'm going to show case the movies of Charles Band. I would have to say it's an impressive body of work! So lets start off with film number one.

Mansion of the Doomed 1976.

An insane surgeon finds himself up to his armpits in eyeballs after guilt prompts him to begin removing the eyes of abducted people in hopes of performing transplants on his daughter who lost her own in a car-accident he caused.
