More on 34 2018

Man, I have not done a pickup post in a long time but its that time again where we jump in the car and drive for miles upon miles of garage sale goodness! It's More On 34, here in LaSalle County its a long stretch of road that ties Chicago with the small town's. Now, it takes us 15 minutes or so to jump on and we live in the middle so every year we have to choose what direction to go and that is always the hard part. This year we went towards the city.

This year my daughter was out to find anything Broadway and she currently loves picking up old musicals on vinyl so here we go!

Twenty-Eight records later and taking me off the beaten path because she saw a sign that said records her mission was accomplished! And I was shocked most of them were in really good condition if it was not for the musty covers I would say the records are in mint condition.
So of my favorites...

We already played and converted Its a small world to digital format with no scratches at all! I could not wait for the sounds of Bunch-of- Banjos thinking it was tongue and check, sadly it was really just banjoed music. So what did I pick up this year...

Ok had to snag this bad boy and at 1.00 (yeah I bundled to get it lower shame on me) just to bring to camp its all there so I can not wait to jump into the old west.

Retro games are getting harder to find in the wild as it has become the big thing so sadly this was all I found that I needed anyway. I did pick up a loose MVP College Baseball for the PS2 as well. I did do alright with the movies tho...

As you can see a few musicals in the mix courtesy of you know who the good news movies have come way down in price Insidious for example was a quarter and nothing was over a dollar! But let's talk about those Horror Block exclusives!

Like Argento's Dracula! This movie has been talked about lately in the horror circles including the Shock Waves podcast. So looking forward to sinking my teeth into this one.

Ok, not so sure what this is but if it has Eli Roth's name on it you have to pick it up! Will be digging into this soon.

And this, this glorious version of Night Of The Living Dead sealed form Horror Blocks!! I can never pass up on a copy of this movie and when I looked at its value I about died! This bad boy is fetching 40 or more opened not much for flipping but thinking about it.

And that's about it sadly we did not go too far it was 107 degrees outside! So we only stayed out for a few hours and headed home. Oh and not pictured I picked up a VHS player for twenty-five cents.

More On 34 2017

It's that time of the year again to hit the trails looking for treasures! More on 34 was an idea conceived in Kewanee Il and has grown into a wonderful weekend event. More on 34 stretches over 100 miles on US Route 34. The event takes place every year on father’s day weekend (Friday and Saturday). This year we only had a few hours before we had to turn back but we made the best of our time.

As the story of my life goes we live smack dab in the middle so every year we have to pick a direction starting in Mendota which is 15 minutes north of us. So we started off head 20 miles over to Earlville and backtracked to Mendota. Sadly on like other years, Earlville was not very good to me. My daughter sure she found a few bits of Barbie clothes straight out of the 80's. And as we traveled through Mendota I still did not find much and I was ready to call it a day when I remembered a school was having a rummage sale. And finally, I struck gold. I found 7 PlayStation 2 games at .50 cents a pop! And we both found a few books along with a Gumball DVD that I was told we must own 😄 Hey spending a day on the road with my youngest was well worth it.

After such an awesome haul I was reenergized to move forward hitting one more small town before heading home. Scored a few movies Quarantine that I ended up having already, Tommyknockers and This is Spinal Tap. The big win for me was in that town the Call Of Duty limited edition steel book set for a cool $5.

I'm not one for first person shooters but man this will look good in the Man Cave! I do plan on playing it soon. So, in the end, I spent $15 bucks on more junk that I do not need but man it was fun! Every year I try to ask off for the whole weekend so that someday I can take this journey from start to finish It's just a hard weekend to get off, Someday though it will happen.

As you can see we ran into what has to be one of the coolest Little Free Library's that we have seen. And for some reason, my kid was into finding stuffed animals this year. I only let her pick up a few that well looked clean.

Some call it hoarding some call it hunting we just call it fun!

It's fathers day weekend and you know what that means! Baseball, cookouts, and 120 miles of Garage Sale fun. Well for me that is. We look forward to this event every year, but it is pretty hard to cover 120 miles in just a few hours of a Saturday so we just pick a direction (we live 15 miles South of the middle of the sale) this year we went West. We really only intended to do Princeton and Wynette this year, but we tossed in Dover and one here in our backyard. Next year we will head back east. When Ella and I first did the trip a few years back we made it pretty far to the west but now it goes even longer than before. But we still found quite a few treasures.

My youngest is not much of a fan rummaging through other people's junk but she goes to make her dad happy and she does have some fun even if she sits in the car for a few stops listing to her music while my oldest and I pick through it all. But this year Lainey found this bunny and that is all she could talk about. For some odd reason, she is all about the rabbits in the yard and wants one for a pet so badly. So when she saw this for 20 bucks she really wanted it. Then she realized how bad it smelled and yay me and mom she did not want it at all. But for somebody, you got the cage and the bunny for 20 bucks not sure if this is a good price but it did seem fair to me.

One of the reasons for hitting Princeton is the fairground. They always have 30 plus vendors all in one spot making it so convenient to stop in one place and shop. Right, off the bat I found a super nice lady selling DVD's. Being I was with two younger girls, she seemed concerned about what I was about to look at. She had two small boxes of Horror DVD's and she wanted to make sure I knew there was nothing Kid related in the box. I was like "Oh Yeah you are singing my tune!" she was a little shocked, but the girls let her know that is what I collect and have over 700 of them collect dust. So I found a few and the lady made me a nice deal I walked away with 10 movies from her the first time around and then went back and wiped her out picking up 10 more. She was so sweet and really enjoyed talking to the girls and I. I truly hope they had a fantastic sellers weekend they had a lot of cool stuff. But as soon as we made our way inside the girls found a few nicely priced Bitty Baby toys and some odd-looking tower for little people. At this stop for less than 20 minutes and already loading the car up. Found a few more DVD's inside and a 360 game for only a dollar which was crazy when there was another guy selling his for 4 dollars and they looked wet and all scratched to hell so when I offered to buy one for 2 bucks he kind of laughed at me. Well ok, then I do not need your crap anyway.

More on 34 part one Friday

OK, so as the story goes Ella and I like to get out and hit a garage sale or two. Ella is always on the hunt for that next big treasure to find. Ever since she found Polly Pockets for .25 cents she is a digger. She loves it, and I think it is fun to dig around with her. Don't be fooled I don't mind finding that treasure as well. The Book, CD, or DVD I can post online for a DVD I really want. Or that piece of junk I just need to own.

Well with that said a lady a work was telling me about this "More On 34" sale. Well, this sounded cool to me and why not get out and stop at a few house at a time and what not. More like not! I got off work early today so I asked Ella if she would like to go see what was in Mendota and then head home. Mendota was so bad and there was nothing out we were pretty disappointed. Ella was really bummed so I said let us trek on! And to La Mollie we went. Things look up we stopped 6 times in the little town and a storm was fast approaching. Ella's treasures today are a "That's so Raven" DVD and Art set toy boat for the pool and some cooking toys all for $4.00 so she was happy. Until she has to pull 4 things to get rid of.

As the thunder rolled in we rolled out next stop Dover before we eat. We saw a few sales along the way but did not stop, the rain was starting to fall and just did not look worthwhile. Dover looks like a dud so we head to the spaghetti express to bring home dinner. And then came the rain as we got out of the car! Not a dry spot on the two of us.

All and all today was nice to get out with Ella. And we will head to Princeton tomorrow like we had planned all along, I will try and remember the camera as well.
