Five Movie Gems from October

I have not done a top five in a while and wanted to break one out today chatting about the five best movies I watched during the Spooky Month of October. Normally I set a plan going into October, and I did only in true 2020 fashion I jumped around and skipped almost the entire list. What was great about that I found some gems!

Halloween at Aunt Ethel’s 2019 Amazon Prime

Everyone in town knows the story of Old Aunt Ethel. It’s said she makes Halloween candy and pumpkin pie out of the kids that trick-or-treat at her house. This Halloween, the neighborhood teens are going to find out the truth. Simply put this fun ride is a very low-budget movie with some heart. The story is fun the cinematography is not too bad. Aunt Ethel is a hoot. Now the acting well slows down the movie just a tad but that should not stop you from checking out this flick. This is right up the alley for teenage boys with plenty of nudity, alcohol, and drugs. The ending was worth the build-up.

3 Bloody Brains out of Five

Don’t F*&k in the Woods 2016  Tubi Tv (FREE)

A group of friends are going on a camping trip to celebrate graduating from college. But once they enter the woods, the proverbial shit starts to hit the fan. Man, this movie left its mark on my brain. In fact, my buddy at work, and I were talking about it again! Yes, it's a very low budget, poorly acted, and has a ton of silly sex. Yet the story is great, the monster is great, and the gore is perfect! It's about as much fun one can have in 73 minutes trapped in a low-budget flick. I love this movie and will watch it again maybe even for next Halloween who knows. Thanks again to COVID the sequel is in limbo and I will watch that one as well.

3 Bloody Brains out of 5

Mr. Boogedy 1986 Disney+

A novelty-salesman moves his family into a new house. Initially dismissing incidents as more of their father’s practical jokes, the family soon learns that the house is haunted by people who lived in the house 300 years previously. This was a scream! At a fast-paced 44 minutes, you did not want it to end. A brilliant ghost story that was perfect for kids and Halloween. I'm just sad it took me 34 years to discover Mr. Boogedy! If you have Disney+ or plan on getting into the service soon check this one out.

4 Bloody Brains

Never Hike Alone 2017 YouTube

A hiker’s survival skills are put to the test when he stumbles upon the remains of camp crystal lake and discovers its long dark secrets. This fan-made Friday the 13th film is amazing! With plenty of tension suspense and a hard dose of realistic tone helps set Never Hike Alone apart from fan films setting the bar really high. And when the last 15 minutes kick it make sure to breathe once and a while!! Never Walk Alone and its sequel are free on YouTube just Click here.

4 Bloody Brains out of 5

Hubie Halloween 2020 Netflix

Look let's not fight about Hubie ok? For me it just hit different I really laughed hard and had a great time with this special. I would not be surprised if it lands on my top ten movies of the year list. In case you are under a rock Hubie Dubois who, despite his devotion to his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts (and its legendary Halloween celebration), is a figure of mockery for kids and adults alike. But this year, something really is going bump in the night, and it’s up to Hubie to save Halloween. Is Hubie perfect no is it a fun escape from life yes. Currently, on letterboxd, it's averaging at 2 1/2 stars with only 1% of us giving it 4 1/2 stars, and that's ok. not every movie is made for everybody, In fact, who knows I might watch it again next year and hate it.

4 out of 5

Well that's it I was shocked that my goal was to watch 20 movies for Halloween. When I looked back at a shattering number of 41 movies, shorts, and specials I was pleased with myself. I really have found my love for movies once again. According to Letterboxd, I have logged 143 movies (Goal was 75) by the end of October and November has been no slouch as well. I guess in a way COVID was not a bad thing for me keeping me in our house.

My full list of "Countdown To Halloween 2020" Movies. (Click Here for the full site)

So what are a few good Christmas movies I should be checking out? Let me know in the comments below.

Turkey Trot Monday

There is much more to offer on Thanking than just Adam Sadler's Turkey song. And I promise to skip Baby Shark's Thanksgiving as well.

Turkey Time

Oh, Thanksgiving during Covid what a time to be alive! What do I mean? Well, it's not crazy talk just think about it, even with a smaller bird on the table for me I went from 20 family members eating my food to just 2!! That's a lot of turkey for this guy!

Not to mention all the pie just for me!! I will take it or three pieces I will let you know.

And Aunt Edena will not be around so no stove top stuffing just the good stuff!!

Also no need to dress up this year it's going to be baggy jeans or sweat pants for sure. Heck, my wife will probably keep on her pajamas all day long.

So let's all just relax enjoy the family around you Zoom if you can (or want to) and for god sakes do not run out on Black Friday for the junk you do not need. Retailers will be desperate for your money all year so the sales will go deeper on better products.

Oh and yeah set those scales back nobody needs to know.

Most of all have a safe, warm, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Bud, Lou, And a Goolie too, tonight on Svengoolie

This classic Universal picture revived not only the careers of Bud and Lou but also the studio's near-dormant monster roster. The film’s success resulted in a few more films with the boys meeting other Universal horrors. Watch along with us, as we give you some background on the production, introduce key cast members- and add in some Sven fun!

"Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" runs tonight on MeTV at 8 pm eastern/pacific, 7 central- and, if you're unsure of the channel or time of the broadcast where you are, please consult your local listings or www.metv.com . Remember to join the many Tweeters who live-Tweet during the show ( no matter what time zone you view us in) on Twitter- using the hashtag #svengoolie. In Chicago, viewers get a second helping of the stop-motion Ray Harryhausen magic that is the "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" at 11 am on our main local channel, CW26.

Just a wee bit more Halloween for everyone.

So far I have two of the three Halloween Videos done for your enjoyment. The first one was Trunk or Treat COVID Style. Our local radio station hosted this event. It was fun and we are glad to have gotten into the long line early.

Our second video is a small mix of things we did throughout the month of October. The good news Trick or Treat will be done soon so one more video of Halloween goodness coming your way soon.

Bang your head! Music Monday

This will be NOT SAFE FOR WORK Music Monday!

I love Little Big and this song say's it all. Not for you? That's ok check out the Taco song by the band you'll love that one.

I meant to post this for Halloween and I still feel the need to share it so here you go! It's ok to Jam out to this one.

I love Billie that is all.

Same sound what's not to like?

You need some cuteness to brighten your day.

I don't know how to title this post 🤷‍♂️

Well, what a crazy few days here in LaSalle County, we have made the national news and for all the wrong reasons. COVID is on the rise and it's not good, we have mayor's that will not shut the bars down at 11 o'clock and want restaurants to stay open for indoor dining. These crazy bat shit ideas from them have caused so many new cases that I don't want to go outside.

That is us in the New York Times at number 9! Love it.

Our High School has been closed for a few weeks now. Not enough sub's as teachers are getting sick daily. The one bright spot has been the grade school even with a small break out they have stayed open going to school 5 days a week and all-day classes. Until Friday that shoe dropped as well. The School already made safe plan's for the holiday by ordering classes to go remote the week after Thanksgiving and two weeks after Christmas break, such a good idea. As of writing this LaSalle Peru is now at a 20% positivity rate and schools are starting to close, and the text came at 11:30Am starting Monday the school will shut down and go remote until January 19, 2021.

You can clearly see the sadness on Lainey's face these kids love to be in school! One of the biggest problems our Veterans Home now has a break out as 180 people in one building are sick and sadly dieing. I'm sure if you google LaSalle Veterans Home in Illinois you will quickly be greeted with some sad stories. We have a few friends that work at the home who are sick but their hearts are all about the vet's they want to get better so they can go back to work and help out. The short staff that is working are pulling in double and triple shifts every day. It's a sad time in our small town.

So we will be digging into home school and hope this can be brought under control quickly none of us want to see a shut down again, most of us can not afford it. And the toilet paper has begun flying off the shelves once more as panic buying sets in.

If we all do the right thing by wearing a mask as well as washing our hands we can do this. we can change the way this disease spreads like wildfire.

My prediction Illinois will have a one-week shutdown starting the week of Thanksgiving so people are forced to stay home and not go shopping during Black Friday. Time will tell.

Stay safe everyone.

You'll see it tear a city apart tonight on Svengoolie

As a result of an arctic nuclear test, a carnivorous dinosaur thaws out and starts making its way down the east coast of North America. All doubts disappear, however, when Elson is swallowed whole during an oceanic bathysphere excursion to search for the creature. Soon thereafter the rhedosaurus emerges from the sea and lays waste to Manhattan Island until Nesbitt comes up with a plan to try to stop the seemingly indestructible beast.
