Nerds primarily consist of sugar. The top three ingredients are dextrose, sugar, and malic acid. Yes, give me more sugar!!
Nerds also had a close cousin in the '80 called Dweebs.(Can you tell that it was not cool to be different in the 80's) Dweebs were very similar to Nerds but they were less sour and bigger in size. Dweebs only lasted a short time on the market, however.
Larger packages may contain various colors—sometimes referred to as "Rainbow Nerds."
So what is your favorite Nerd flavor? Do you still eat them today? Let me know in the comments below.

Never tried them (I was an adult in the 80s) but anything made out of sugar MUST be good for you!
ReplyDeleteI like them occasionally, but my daughter still goes crazy for them. I found a box of Nerds before Christmas that was bigger than a cereal box! It was full of the mini-boxes but still! Perfect gift for her.
ReplyDeleteMy kids enjoy Nerds, but their favorites are the hard-to-find Nerds Ropes. They're Nerds, strung on red vine type candy. We go camping annually at a campground in PLymouth, MA - a high point of the weekend is them getting the chance to buy Nerds Ropes at the lodge store. =D

I think Nerds must have come just after my peak years for sugar intake. I always loved all forms of Sweet Tarts, so I'm sure I would have liked them.
