Synopsis:
In a small town named Sleepy Hollow, a gangly schoolteacher named Ichabod Crane comes to town. Despite his unattractive appearance, he quickly proves to be a ladies man who charms the local beauty, much to the local tough, Brom Bones', displeasure. A subtle rivalry erupts, only to have Crane continually gaining the upper hand. The situation changes when Brom learns of Crane's superstitions and exploits them as he musically tells the legend of the fearsome Headless Horseman to frighten the teacher. That night, Crane's lonely night ride home becomes more lively than he ever imagined as the Horseman appears to chase him.

Growing up we had a hand full of Halloween specials to choose from of course It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Garfield's Halloween, and Disney's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I always loved this story and in fact, some form of Sleepy Hollow is always part of my October routine.

Did you know The Headless Horseman is often cited as being, along with The Horned King in The Black Cauldron and Chernabog in Fantasia, as one of the scariest villains in the Disney Universe? Rumor is Disney still receives complaints from parents about the character frightening their children.
So here you go in its 1994 VHS glory (commercials and all) Disneys The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

  3. This was so much fun to watch as a kid and later with my daughter when she was young. And I agree, the headless horseman is terrifying.

  4. If I remember correctly, it was this special that gave the Horseman the flaming pumpkin head image.
I had a brush with the headless Hessian last weekend, tune into my blog on Monday :)
