Buried deep beneath the earth for a hundred years Jonathan had to sacrifice his own soul and become a vampire in order to find his true love.
Meanwhile, a beautiful young woman, Victoria, wakes from recurring dreams of a time when she was in love. It is clear that Victoria is Jonathan's true love and when they finally meet, they realize that their souls are forever intertwined. Victoria finds herself caught between her immortal love and her mortal ties.
Jonathan has made the ultimate sacrifice for her - his own mortality.
Will she now do the same for him?
The movie opens up with are starlet getting caught with another man and GASP! Jumps in front of a spear for her lover and well dies. Our lover has his heart broken and turns to black magic to find his way back to his love. Flash forward 100 years, and through the power of dreams they find each other once again or something cheesy thing like that. The story has nothing new to add to the genre but then again its Vampires and like Zombies if somebody changes the formula fans go ape shit.
The plot, believe it or not, is fairly good and the acting is not too bad as well. In fact, I really enjoyed actress Marilyn O'Connor as the crazy aunt. And Geoffrey Lewis pulls of some pretty good comic relief. Also, I give Duff some mad prop's for using some old school effects like color gels to add mood and atmosphere. All tho slightly dated it help a few shots look pretty good and killed one or two others.
We do get a police car crash scene that was pretty impressive from a young director. But.... we do get way to many microphones bopping down killing the mood on several occasions. And the soundtrack was pretty lackluster to boot. And strangely enough at the 43-minute mark I was ready to turn this bad boy off due to those things alone.
But I hung in there for my girl and rode the storm out to the end. And well it tied itself up pretty nicely. The crazy aunt lives, the vampire gets his girl, and the husband dies.... or does he??
I truly can not recommend this movie unless you're on Full Moon Horror Streaming already where you can watch it. If you are, you owe it to yourself to check out Duff's directing debut as she is a Full Moon staple.
Or if you just want to watch a so-so vampire story today then sign up for the free week. But do yourself a favor and watch Subspecies as well.
Sorry vampire fans...

I'll keep my eye out for Subspecies!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of signing up for Full Moon Streaming. If I do, I'll check this out. I'll definitely watch Subspecies first though!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for attending the Soiree! Happy Vampire's Day! ^♥^
Thanks for having me! Happy Vampires Day to you as well. Full Moon is pretty cool with the Something Weird and Blue Underground Catalogs. There is enough from Full Moon but the other content is what makes it worth the money.
DeleteMaybe I'll just stick with trying to find a copy of Subspecies somewhere. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I might dust off my copy tonight need to cleanse with a good vampire movie.
DeleteWho doesn't love a crazy Aunt? Got to give it 3 brains for that alone :D XXX
