Death Race had a huge impact on my life growing up as well as Galaxy of Terror, Slumber Party Massacre and the movie that blew me away Piranha, I can say safely Corman made the low budget sci-fi/horror movie fun to me. I have always watched his back catalog with The Wasp Woman being one that I can watch over and over as well as Navy Vs The Night Monsters pure classic gold!
Now I will have to track down a few movie's that I did not realize he had a hand in like The Wild Angels. Peter Fonda's interview was very interesting for this movie. I never knew it paved the way for Easy Rider.
Also need to find Martin Scorsese's Box Car Bertha. Had no clue that was a Corman/Scorsese joint. The documentary was very eye opening and moving. It was so cool to see how many people's lives he has touched and continues to do so. I guess after 410 movies under his belt your going to see a few big names before they became mega stars or B-movie regulars. If your a movie fan you owe it to yourself to track down one of the 4 Documentary's for Corman. Has his portfolio keeps growing in 2015 including the sequel to his SyFi collaboration Sharktopus Vs Mermantula!
The extras on the DVD are not bad as well. You get a few extended interviews and special messages to Roger that are pretty good. Also a hand full of Trailers. Sound is very well balanced for a 5.1 mix. The rear speakers never overpower the movie. Now if you will excuse me I need to watch some B-movie cheese!
Thank You, Roger I give you...

Currently reading Crab Monsters, Teenage Cavemen, and Candy Stripe Nurses: Roger Corman: King of the B Movie.
ReplyDeleteI made a resolution to watch at least one Corman movie every month this year. If you like that doc as much as I did, you need this book to go with it! It's like a print version of the doc, there's lots of interview snippets, movie stills and posters. Love Corman!!
I have to check out this book. I should try to watch a Corman movie once a month with yeah sounds like a fun plan.
DeleteGrand Theft Auto is a pretty fun one with Ron Howard.
