In what essentially amounts to a formality, Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that an Avengers sequel is in development, Deadline reports.
Though no further details are yet available, Iger is quoted as saying thatAvengers "is a great illustration of why we like Marvel so much," and that demand for merchandise has been, unsurprisingly, strong.
The Avengers had a record-breaking $207.4 million domestic opening this past weekend, and currently has made more than $700 million in worldwide totals.
In further comic book movie sequel news, Deadline is also reporting that a Kick-Ass 2 is in motion, to be written and directed by Cry Wolf's Jeff Wadlow. Discussions with cast members Aaron Johnson, Chloƫ Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are said to be "just getting underway."
