If you headed to the Man Cave from the Hot and Bothered 1932 film blogathon "Welcome I hope you enjoy your visit." IF you are a regular around here do not forget to check out the other's over at Once Upon a Screen for more!

So today let's talk about a movie that you find on so many of those public domain DVD's that are floating around dump bin's in those big box stores everywhere. In fact, my copy came from a set called Classic Monster Flicks with such titles as White Zombie, Killer Shrews, Wasp Woman and much much more. I did not even realize it but this was one of ten movies from the set that I did not watch. The other would be Curse of the Swamp Creature.

I'm not going to lie this will be hard to write about without giving anything away. And I have to point out I have a hard time believing that this movie ever scared anyone even for 1932. Of course, the movie opens with a dark and stormy night  our stars show up at her father's mansion to claim her inheritance. Of course, her Uncle would be next in line for the inheritance and with his (Spoiler alert) son and the housekeeper/mother along with the unexplained ape in the house try to well you know kill the daughter, of course, duh and this is a horror flick remember?

In the climatic scene, our villain ties up our heroine by the huge ape that again I have no real idea why it is there or such a big part of the poster art but unfortunately for the villain the big bad ape takes out his frustration on him. And they live happy ever after...I guess. Oh crap I think I just spoiled the movie for you.

So this movie plain and simple was a stinker! I did enjoy Mischa Auer immensely. He was very creepy in this role the way he took charge was great but also the downside as he clear as day gave himself away along with the ending rather early in the movie. And Vera Reynolds was not so bad and pretty easy on the eyes I must say. But nothing could save this train wreck and unfortunately bad movies  happen from time to time. Even tho it was a quick hour it labors through due to the fact you know the outcome. And it feels like it takes forever to get to there.

There is one thing I find interesting about The Monster Walks is that it is part of over 200 titles in the list of independent feature films made available for television presentation by Advance Television Pictures announced in Motion Picture Herald 4 April 1942 so you know this was used by horror host's back in the day not to mention host's from today! I should have watched it that way.

  4. A 57 minute train wreck that feels longer? I've seen one or two of those. Wonder if it was this one.

I appreciate your sacrifice, and an article that was fun to read. I'll have to come back sometime.
