The teenagers become trapped on the island and are temporarily imprisoned in cages. They are freed when other teenagers arrive with the sheriff (who turns out to be in league with Doctor Myra). A complicated fight scene serves as the climax, in which a de-zombified gorilla arrives just in time to attack Dr. Myra's henchmen and allow the teens to escape. Where I picked this up: Old VHS

After Charles Pierce's passing earlier this month, it was time to finally track down a movie that had kept me wondering for a few years now. Why you ask well I will tell you. Going to Flashback weekend and hanging out with the Monster Kids Classic Horrors Film Board I have heard allot about this movie. From gray market copies to really hard to pass up posters and t-shirts you must admit this movie looks interesting. Also, legend would have you believe that "Phantom" was the inspiration for Jason Vorhees on Friday the 13Th Part 2. This is also a very sought after VHS with fans screaming for a DVD release.

To give this movie the documentary feels we get a narrator (Vern Stierman) to set the tone. He will fill in the story and let you know how the town folk feels. Some people really do not like this part of the movie but myself I feel it was a good fit. Now the opening scene with the "Phantom" (Bud Davis Child's Play the blob '88) plays out really well. He hides in the shadows and creeps up very well. After beating the snot of the two kids he gets a little wimpy picking up a gun. Sure this is based on a true story and maybe the guy gets smarter. After almost getting caught the second time he gets a silencer for his gun. I do really like the idea of the Phantom its simple and works. He works well-slowing hunting down his victims. I can see how this lead to the killers we have today.

Now as the movie goes on I feel it loses a bit of what it is working so hard to do. I feel as if nobody knows how to drive. Was driving so hard back then? The First car you see vers off the road then the cops can't drive and so on. It almost comes across as comedy relief.

The Odd Jazz Pop soundtrack did not fit so well also. I under stand that this was the 40's but the sound track was very week.
Is Sparkplug trying to act like Barney Fife? Maybe the writer was ahead of his time making a Horror/Comedy that does not work at all.

I'm glad I finally tracked down this Horror film just for the simple history behind everything. I will most definitely pick up a t-shirt this year at FBW.The movie is worth finding if you are into low budget low horror and more thriller then gore you will find this movie did have a big impact on what we see today.

In today's remake craze this one would really fit the bill. This has Strong remake value. When they do a DVD I sure hope they will not turn out a bare bones disc. I would love a commentary and bonus features.

Power Man 5000 - Somewhere On The Other Side of Nowhere

Lead singer Spider (aka Michael Cummings the younger brother of Rob Zombie), the underground electro-metal band Powerman 5000 earned a popular cult following after 1997's "True Force" but it was not until the Napster craze that I found "Mega-Kung Fu Radio". After that, I was hooked. This new space age sounding electro metal was a new sound I have been waiting for. Then came "Tonight the Stars Re-Volt" that the band found its legs. Their love for old Sci-Fi and Horror flicks really help drive the sound of this band. But then came a string of not so powerful albums. Even so the band stayed together putting out their sound to the fans for over 12 years now. I was looking to give them a new shot and picked up the CD "Somewhere on the other side of nowhere". It is not to bad in fact I was unaware of their new tracks until this week. The release date was October 2009. After hearing "V is for Vampire" on the radio last week, I picked it up. There are a few gems on the album like "Horror Show" and "Time Bomb, Baby" help shape this into a good Metal CD. Nothing really new from the Powerman sound but if you're into Electic sound metal then this is worth picking up. If you are a fan of the band then you already have.

Charles B. Pierce 1938-2010

Another one of our genre's unsung heroes has passed on, and while he's not exactly a huge name in the industry, two of his films have been nothing if not influential to a lot of filmmakers still toiling away today.
Filmmaker Charles Pierce who was best known for his two films The Legend of Boggy Creek and The Town that Dreaded Sundown, has passed on quietly at the age of just 71 in his Dover, Tennessee, Nursing Home.
Charles also worked on such other classics as Boggy Creek 2: And the Legend Continues, Sudden Impact, Coffey, Killer Bees, and The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Chasing The Grail

Thanks to the power of XM Radio I first heard Fozzy a few years ago. During Chris Jericho's show, he would play a tune or two. But I never really looked into it until now. When Hair Nation started playing the radio friendly "Broken Soul" I was hooked. The power pop melody's made me sit up and take notice. So I picked up the album "Chasing The Grail". Every song on this CD is hard and heavy 80's glam metal sound that I grew up on and love to this day. From the Ozzy sounding "Under Blackened Skies" to the powerful ending song "wormwood" the pounding never stops. When you need an need a pick up this CD is for you. It has never left my CD player in over a month and is the new sound of my work out.
I'm surprised by Jericho's voice for an over the top WWE superstar he sure can sing! The riffs and melody really blend well with his razor sharp vocals. So if you are in the need for a powerful ass beating the CD really fills the void!

Platoon of the Dead

Director: John Bowker

Genre: Horror

Netflix

Plot: In the distant future, man's greatest enemy is one another as the flesh-eating undead wages war against the living!

A Marine platoon is ambushed during a mission, leaving only three soldiers alive to fend off the growing army of the living dead. En route to their pickup point, they come across an abandoned house with three mysterious women hiding out inside. If they can make it through the night, they're home free...or so they think because someone is hiding a dark secret that may alter the course of this gore-drenched war.

Let us See what we have here:
  1. Really Bad Zombie's I could have done better makeup on Halloween.
  2. Really Really bad acting,
  3. Toy skeleton made of plastic used as a prop.
  4. The lamest Laser Blasters on the planet
  5. how many Marines have long hair let alone the leader?
  6. You're in a dire situation why the hell did you make the pot roast?
  7. Mom lets you use her house to shot your movie so you have to put her in it?
  8. What's with all the puke
  9. Dude gets eye ripped out and all he can say is ah? like it was no big deal
There is some good to this let us see
  1. Getting Drunk with your Buddy's writing a movie and the next week you make that movie!
  2. The cinema photography was the bite spot of the movie
  3. Its only 80 minutes long
  4. The pot roast really looks good
  5. Proof anybody could make a movie with a Mac Book.
  6. Great soundtrack
  7. The Idea was good.
I wonder why J.R. Bookwalter helped produce this movie? This is so bad I can't stand it, Its a great idea for a story/movie but maybe they should have pushed for Full Moon to pick this up. Yet in the same token, I watched it all the way through never really wanting to turn it off. I need to see how the train wreck was going to end. By the time it ended I did not hate it as much as I thought I would. Some day this may be on Svengoolie if that tells you anything. What I did learn from this movie was you can make a good looking movie that sounds great from the comfort of your own home. But you need to find better make-up and actors to really pull it off.

A Cold Blooded Killer!

The Snowman
R.L. Stine

Pages 181

Published September 1,1991

(Young Adult)

Poor little rich girl . . . Coveting her money, Heather's uncle/guardian hates her and makes her life miserable. Heather sometimes cannot help wishing her uncle dead. But when Heather's uncle really does die, her new boyfriend tells Heather that he killed her uncle . .for her.

I found this at a book sale for 10 cents just to have a quick read. The book starts off with Heather and Ben sucking face just like most tween books read. But for some reason, this was able to take me away (way) back to high school. Really feel the hate Heather has for her Uncle and that really sets the tone for this book.

Of course, a young handsome man walks into Heathers life and calls himself the Snowman. And she like most girls looking for the rebel in their lives falls madly in love with two boys.

Snowman is really creeping in the book and you start to feel for Heather oddly enough. I was really surprised at the pace of this book. Once it gets going its a page turner. I wanted to get to the end of the book as soon as I could. They way the Killer kept showing up was great and the charters made you feel for them as the story went.

I was really surprised by this book only took me a night to read it. I picked up a few R.L. Stine books dirt cheap and so far I'm glad I did. I did not read his books in high school and now I wish I did. Even being older now "The Snowman" really holds up.

Mister B. Gone

By Clive Barker

Release Date October 2007

Pages 256

Mister B. Gone marks the long-awaited return of Clive Barker, the great master of the macabre, to the classic horror story. This bone-chilling novel, in which a medieval devil speaks directly to his reader--his tone murderous one moment, seductive the next--is a never-before-published memoir allegedly penned in the year 1438. The demon has embedded himself in the very words of this tale of terror, turning the book itself into a dangerous object, laced with menace only too ready to break free and exert its power.

A brilliant and truly unsettling tour de force of the supernatural, Mister B. Gone escorts the reader on an intimate and revelatory journey to uncover the shocking truth of the battle between Good and Evil.

I did at times find myself-talking to Mister B out loud. The Book really draws you in once you get to the middle of the book. But did this new concept work. Well... I did enjoy the whole demons vs angels story, the crappy dad and the way he told the story of Hell. I really want to tell you I liked this book but I'm not sure I can.

It took me a long time to read this but I did not want to give up on it. With that said if you see in it in the dump bin for $3.00 buy it you may like it. As for me,

Where Did I find This: Flash Back Weekend vendor table. Me " so which one should I buy" Kevin" well here its (pointing to the movies on the table) (movie one:) no tits (movie two) a few tits (movie three) allot of tits!" Me "I'll take it" hands Hack Movies 10 bucks and walks away. Eric "I like his selling style"

I heard of Hack Movies out of a small town down south in Illinois through MySpace. I had the joy of meeting them for the first time at fango con in 2008. They gave me a demo disk, that cracked me up. This was right up my alley I love nothing more than cheesy no budget movies. So when I ran into them at FlashBack I knew I was going home with one cheese filled DVD.

What can I say other then they delivered! This was a well thought out movie not just gibberish tossed in a blender and spewed out onto a DVD. The make-up for a low budget was spot on. The actors did a fine job as well. Now the Boobs, they are there this is true and I guess this is a good thing because all good horror flicks have naked horror chicks. They may not be hot but they are boobs after all.
Now I must say this movie is not for everybody hell it is not for many people at all. I have never heard of a male and female lower extremity's listed in so many ways. And how many names can one group come up with for your backside? But that is part of this beauty the gift for gab. In a way, I felt like I was watching a very dirty Kevin Smith movie. I love talky movies and this one was not bad in the sense. You can tell that this group of friends does not have much to do in Southern Illinois other than smoke pot drink beer and make great low budget horror flicks. They have a great passion for what they are doing and are putting everything they have into their movies.
This movie was picked up by a small distributor Tempo Video allowing the world the chance to pick this up on major websites. This is one of those movies I would have brought into Suncoast Video to sell.
I look forward to the next video from these guys. They have those great flicks to sit in the man cave with a few bud's some beer and chips and a great time. Now I need to go listen to Hanna Monta to get their website promo song out of my head. Rock on Hack Movies Rock on!

But with the well-used and hallowed manual worn and missing some pertinent information, the boys' mission to lose their virginity is one hilarious mishap after another

Where did I pick this up: Netflix
Ok wow, how do I start this review? Hmm well, I like the American Pie spin-offs they have not been so bad. You laugh you see some nice flesh the Stiffler spin-off it is not bad. Anyhow that was then this is now. From opening credits in this movie was nothing but jokes that have been done already. Not one new thing and the cast was so dull I almost did not finish it. The 3rd act was a bad rip off of all the great 80's teen flicks like "Hot Dog" and "the Sure Thing". It just did not work. Anyway, I say skip it don't buy it's a rental only.
The best part of the movie was all the cameos at the end. The girls not cute but there is flesh and peanut butter sex that is not good.

2 Bloody Brains

ok I'll Do it! Happy New Year.

So I keep reading all these Top 10 lists that everybody thinks they need to do. Then I ran across something different the Top 10 Horror Movies of the Decade. And it made my think hey way not nobody really reads my rambles anyway and it would be fun. Besides my taste is so far different from everybody else on this planet, don't believe ask my brother.

First a few Honorable Mentions:
  • My Name is Bruce; Staring, written and directed by Bruce Campbell himself. He really saved his ass with this one after The Man with the Screaming Brain. If you are a fan of Campbell you have seen this and you get it. If not well get out from that rock you dork.
  • Jason X; Why because I think this is one of the best Friday the 13Th they have made in years. Kane Hodder is Jason, the way he moves and walks, he really brings him to life. Sure they take the battle into space and that can be lame but for me it works, but the new evil upgrade was well done and received. I remember when this movie was never getting the release that it needed and the early days of the Internet I was able to score a bootleg and I was glad I did. The DVD is packed with great extras. I proudly display my Kane Hodder signed DVD front and center.
So as you can see already My list is going to be way different from yours ...Maybe? Know on with the blog.
  • 10. Hatchet "Old School American Horror". When I meet Adam Green at flashback I had already heard a lot of good things about this movie. After listing to his Q&A I was hooked. I could not wait for the DVD release. Sure the ending sucks butt the rest of the movie blew me away. Looking forward to Hatchet 2 and Frozen later this year.
  • 9. Texas Chain Saw Massacre; Why you ask, well as far as remakes go this was done really well. The update to the story worked, a the actors hit the spot. Makeup was great and it was at the time one of the best sounding movies. The DVD packaging was great and the DTS works well from home theaters.
  • 8. Devils Rejects; Rob Zombie grew up with his second afford. The dirt the grit the cast and the lines make this a great movie. The 70's style works for this and it did not get weird at the end like his first movie.
  • 7. My Bloody Valentine; finally somebody in Hollywood heard me. I have said all along quit trying to remake good movies that everybody already likes but remake the crap movies and make them better! I liked the original but the remake blew me out of the coal mine!
  • 6. Dawn of the Dead; This will be the last of the remakes on my list and it proves that the last ten years of movies sucked on originality. This is the movie that really kicked started the remake frenzy. At first, I felt like I was going to hate this movie running Zombies come on. But it works and it is scary as hell!
  • 5. Freddy Vs Jason; Back in 1989 when I was an Usher they talked about making this movie. Sure it took over 10 years to be made and it was worth the wait! Ask my wife I stood up and cheered in the theater. I really hope they do not try this again let this movie be. I can watch this movie every time it is on TV.
  • 4. Jeepers Creepers; Well this movie took me back in time when I first watched a monster movie. I love the Creeper he was a new face to add to a long list of Great Monsters! Sure part 2 was not very good but I hope that does not stop them from making more!
  • 3. Behind the Mask the rise and fall of Leslie Vernon; What a breath of fresh air to the Horror scene. This is a well-written movie. I did not see it coming at the end and yet I loved it. If you have not seen this movie you really owe it to yourself to give it a look.
  • 2. Bubba Ho-Tep; I drove an hour just to see this movie and I'm glad I did. You know you have seen it and if it is not part of your top 10 list then shame on you!
  • 1. Shaun Of the Dead; Need I say More.
So there you go love it or leave it! Happy New Year here is the next 10 years of crapping remakes and Saw Movies that suck!
