Synopsis:

Three stories are interwoven together. The first, about a college student infatuated with his teacher. The second, a paranoid tale of two sisters - one good, the other evil, and the third about an African tribal doll that comes to life and terrorizes a woman in her apartment.

So a few weeks ago I asked one of my Camp buddies what he has been watching lately and Jacob kind of shocked me saying to check out Trilogy of Terror and its sequel that I will happy dust off my VHS copy soon and watch that one next. What surprised me the most was that I have never seen this one yet and let's face it it's a pretty popular tile in the horror movie world. And with Dan Curtis yelling action along with William F Nolan I knew I was in for a treat.

First off Nolan is a legend in the movie world writing such great hits like The Turn of The Screw, Burnet Offerings and of course Logan's Run (along with a new book for Logan's Run that he is writing now). And when he and Curtis team up they always take us on a journey. Now if you are not familiar with Dan Curtis then shame on you! The man brought us Dark Shadows and one of the best Dracula (1974) movies around and of course Burnt Offerings. As a bonus, we share the same birth date. Plus driving this big bad bus is the lovely Karen Black (The PYX Burnt Offerings and the not so good Ooga Booga) who plays four roles just for this made for TV gem.

Julie

Our first story is about Chad a college student with a crush on his English teacher, Julie Eldridge (Black). During one class, Chad is distracted by Julie's thigh as she sits on her desk and daydreams about her. The next day, he asks Julie out on a date. She initially refuses, but later accepts the offer.
And the blackmail begins so we think.

Now I do not want to give too much away but Julie was my favorite story! What a total mind F**k I did not see the end coming at all and was blown away. Even the tone and the backdrop really captured the 70's style and feel roping me in even more.

Millicent and Therese

A tale of sibling rivalry takes us down the rabbit hole in our second installment that focuses on sisters Millicent, a repressed and prudish brunette and Therese, a worldly, seductive, and free-spirited blonde. Both roles are played by Karen Black. And even tho we do not get much of anything new the storyline is ok but took me out of the trance that "Julie" had just loured me into!

Millicent is determined that Therese is evil, and plants a voodoo doll to kill her. When Millicent's friend Dr. Ramsey played by George Gaynes (Commandant Lassard of Police Acadamy Fame) enters the house and reveals that Therese suffered from multiple personality disorder brought on by the fact that "Therese" slept with her father and subsequently killed her mother - and "Millicent" was an alternate personality with a repressed sexuality to cope with the horror of her actions. The recent death of the father unhinged her further and the murder was actually a form of suicide. Sadly This installment was really lame so let's move on to the one everybody talks about!

Amelia

"Amelia" was filmed as a one-woman play, with Karen Black as the only actor based on the short story, "Prey". Amelia lives alone in a high-rise apartment building. She returns home after a shopping spree carrying a package containing a Zuni fetish doll, crafted in the form of a misshapen aboriginal warrior equipped with razor sharp teeth and a spear. A scroll comes with the doll, claiming the doll contains the actual spirit of a Zuni hunter named "He Who Kills", and that the gold chain adorning the doll keeps the spirit trapped within. As Amelia makes a call to her mother, the Zuni doll's golden chain has somehow fallen off oddly on its own. And of course, all hell breaks loose.

I will admit the way this segment was tossed into our laps with clever camera angles, insanely strange nose's coming from the doll and poor Karen Black screaming her head for a solid 7 minutes or so was enough to drive fear into our hearts. But nothing and I mean nothing could prepare me for the final scene that will live in my head forever! As Black bangs a knife into the ground and twists it with an evil smirk on her face with a slow pan out even this tough guy said holy Sh#t when the screen finally went black.

I can see way Trilogy of Terror is a much loved insane road trip amongst horror fans. Karen Black as always was amazing. Dan Curtis does it again and the world is a much better place because of them. Although the middle segment was a drag do not let that slow you down from checking this one out. And believe it or not, Julie was my favorite story over Amelia! So if you have not seen this Seventies gem head to your favorite video streaming rental site and let me know what you thought of Trilogy Of Terror.

If your a fan of real monsters this is a great read I honestly could not put it down, its fun, witty and full of entertainment.

NO UBER JASON! Friday the 13th Game Comes to a Sad End?

Why oh Why!!! Last summer Victor Miller, scriptwriter of the original Friday the 13th film, decided the rights were his and set out to reclaim them, triggering an ongoing legal battle with those who believed otherwise. And thanks to this battle Friday The 13th game was delt so sad news! There will be no additional content added to Friday the 13th: The Game. This includes Uber Jason, The Grendel Map, Jason Kill Packs, Clothing, Emotes and new Counselors. What no UBER JASON!!! The one thing I have been waiting for is now on hold son of a b.....

Gun Media's statement read:

"As many in our community may be aware, a legal claim has been made which could affect all future Friday the 13th intellectual property. Although in the past the game has not been subject to any such claim, new content and material going forward will be affected. An initial decision, in this case, was expected in October 2017, but no decision has yet been issued. The court review of the legal rights is in the process, but final resolution may take some time. Until the claim rights can be dismissed or resolved, no new content can be released.

"When we originally learned that the game fell within the crosshairs of this legal dispute, we tried to balance the creation of new content requested by our fans against the maintenance and bug fixing that our community expects and deserves. We attempted to do both within the limits of the legal case.

"We've now been forced to accept that the lawsuit makes future content for the game, including alternate play modes, new playable Jasons, and Counselors, and new maps, unfeasible now or in the future. Although the listed content types will be affected, we remain committed to launching dedicated servers on our console platforms and providing the continued maintenance and bug fixing important to supporting our fan base.

Oh, greedy Hollywood you are a wonderful beast.

Set over one summer, the film follows precocious six-year-old Moonee as she courts mischief and adventure with her ragtag playmates and bonds with her rebellious but caring mother, all while living in the shadows of Walt Disney World.

I have never seen a more beautiful movie through all its tragedy and mess of raw emotion comes from its heartwarming cast and director. Sean Baker is a master of his craft, coming off of Tangerine that was shot on an iPhone 5. Baker is a director who primarily works with first-timers, and for example, he found his cast on Instagram (Bria Vinaite) and walking through a Target (Valeria Cotto). And yet his magic touch turns his dirty world into glitter and gold.

Bria Vinaite gives a commanding debut performance as a walking rebuke to so many ugly cultural stereotypes about being a “bad mom” she may be a hellion, and not meet the standards of what a parent is supposed to offer to their children, but it’s a performance that exudes utter pride and affection at every moment, even if those emotions sometimes curdle into arrogance and irresponsibility. And yet I find myself looking at her at times thinking she is doing her best as a parent exactly what Baker sets out to do.

Baker would have you feeling that there are just parents who look out for their kids, and those who don’t. But the true first-time revelation is found in Brooklyn Prince, who carries much of the film’s on her shoulders and does so without the affectations of so many child performers. One moment late in the film, when the realities of her life finally descend on her we see Prince, as she works through the full spectrum of adult emotions for the first time within seconds. It’s such a breathtaking piece of performance for any actor, let alone a young actor who was discovered doing small commercials in Orlando.

William Dafoe, who does remarkable work as a kind, everyday man attempting to do right by those in his charge while also keeping himself afloat. Dafoe's character is so touching and warm he becomes another set piece that makes the magic work. You really feel for him at times and you see the warmth and empathy he has for these families. Dafoe spent a week living in the motel before production in order to immerse himself in the life of the characters & master the nuances of the regional dialect. All this paid off for him as he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.

I do not say this very often but The Florida Project is one of those movies I ask you to seek out you would be foolish to pass on this one. Even if you are not a fan of Independent Cinema this movie will tug at you in ways that most big budget movies cannot do! There is an underbelly out there just under the Happiest place on earth that you need to witness from the comfort of your own home. IF you do not fall in love with Moonie (Prince) then you are missing the point, she drives this movie into your heart and leaves you thinking about her for days after you witness her story.

The Florida Project is the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. It's a crazy world we live in and Sean Baker gives us a slice of American Pie that we never knew about. Not many movies move me like this did, in fact, it almost brought me to tears and I loved every moment of it and I promise you will too.

Halloween Trailer 2018

Ok, be honest what did you think? I'm still not sure what I think yet it looks good but something about it seems kind of silly. Only time will tell.

USA Today Post Halloween's First Look

Dang if the New Halloween mask does not look kick ass! The trailer drops Friday and the fan community is drooling in anticipation. So USA Today posted a first look and it has me jumping for joy. Have a look if you haven't already.

Synopsis

The film focuses on the intrigue inside Excelsior Union High School. Michael J. Fox plays J.J. Manners, who becomes enamored with Beth Franklin (Nancy McKeon), the girlfriend of Beau Middleton (Anthony Edwards), the class president and quarterback. Middleton is also the richest student and drives around in a brand-new convertible.

The core story involves Manners and Middleton competing for the affections of Beth. You know a Geek vs Jock scenario. Ultimately this rivalry culminates in a drag race between the two. The result of the race tips the balance and changes the face of the dynamics within the school irrevocably.

From the Bob Cummings Show to Dukes of Hazard director Rod Amateau is more than ready to weave a story of High School misfits taking on the popular kids the big question here after 35 years will the comedy still hold up? With all of TV's big names and a so/so plot, the sad answer is no. I remember really liking this as a kid but then again anything Dana Plano was in had me in front of the tube.

As a child how could you not watch High School USA with all its stars from all the great tv shows at the time? And your parents were willing to watch as we due to all the past stars of the small screen playing the teachers. Although you would think Michael J. Fox would be the star for me Crispin Glover stole the show. And sadly my sweetheart Dana Plano was only in it briefly.

The one thing really lacking is the nostalgia as High School USA did not take me back to the '80s at all. The set pieces where pretty lame the music not really there even for a made for TV movie leading to a look and feel that falls flat. As a side storyline, Todd Bridges is a genius who has created a robot that he believes to be capable of going into space. Crispin Glover plays Archie Feld, a socially-impaired boy nervous about interacting with girls. And, Beau Middleton's father has created an incentive for the teachers by offering a sizable reward for the best teacher. Subsequently, the teachers focus extra effort on impressing Beau with their worthiness of the reward. All this still falls short of entering. Even the race at the end was boring.

Man the 13-year-old in me is so bummed that this did not hold up! Although I think the pickup lines from HSU are some I still use today, thank you, Mr. Fox. If you remember Square Pegs, Different Strokes, or Leave it to Beaver it is a fun road trip that the pay off falls short but still worth the time and effort just to see your childhood stars all in one place.

Free Streaming this June!

It's a new month time to look into those free movies on Vudu for June! And as much as I would like to tell you to watch Yental or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles three I can't so here is my list of top five new and FREE movies on Vudu.

First up the 1996 Comedy starring Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin Bio-Dome. Moronic best friends get themselves locked inside the Bio-Dome, a science experiment, along with a group of environmental scientists for one year. This silly yet fun summer flick gives us Joey Lauren Adams and Kylie Minogue witch called this film her "worst career move". She said that it is the only thing she has done in her professional life that her father ridicules her for.

In Brian De Palma's homage to Hitchcock, a psycho-killer stalks two New York City women--one a frustrated housewife, the other a street-smart hooker who teams up with the first woman's son to trap the murderer. Angie Dickinson said on The Tonight Show, that of all the movies she was in, Dressed to Kill is her favorite. Make sure to check out this classic thriller with the lights on.

Come on you know you still quote Rain Man "Gotta get my boxer shorts at K-Mart." Selfish yuppie Charlie Babbitt's father left a fortune to his savant brother Raymond and a pittance to Charlie; they travel cross-country. If you have never seen this Oscar Winner you owe it to yourself to grab the popcorn and enjoy! Plus its the only thing we have left of K-Mart.

If you have never seen the 1987 classic Overboard you must watch it before the new one so you can say like the rest of us "Why remake a masterpiece?". A cruel but beautiful heiress mocks and cheats over a hired carpenter. When she gets amnesia after an accident, he decides to introduce her to regular life by convincing her they're husband and wife. Looking back on the film, Garry Marshall thinks that it's "still one of the funniest pictures I ever made."

A boy inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town. Did you know this film and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) are credited with inspiring the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating? Many felt the movies were too violent for a PG rating, but not violent enough for an R.

Boy, that is a ton of 80's gold not to mention Gremlins 2, Big Fish, and My Girl did not make the cut for my top Five. Check out Vudu today for some truly great summer blockbusters all for free!
