The aliens are actually planning to use the three monsters to take over our planet.

Did you know that Nick Adams is speaking English throughout the Film, despite the fact he seems to be conversing with the other actors, who are clearly speaking Japanese? Adams was simply dubbed over into Japanese for the Japanese release. Conversely, when the film was finally released in the US, Nick Adams voice is the only voice not dubbed over. The Japanese speaking actors are dubbed over into English.

Outer Space Blogathon Coming Soon

Ok, it has been a long time coming but I think this blog is back up and running. It will still take a few days to dust off the creative mind but I took the first step today joining a fun Blogathon called Outerspace on Flim Hosted by Moon in Gemini click here to see everybody that has joined and what films they will cover. For me kicking it old school with 1983 not so classic and not so 3D Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone staring Peter Straus and Molly Ringwald.

The Plot is simple - Three women make an emergency landing on a planet plagued with a fatal disease but are captured by dictator Overdog. Adventurer Wolff goes there to rescue them and meets Niki, the only Earthling left from a medical expedition. Combining their talents, they try to rescue the women.

Now I don't want to promise but it is a 3-day event so I just might sneak another flick in for your enjoyment I can not do a blog hop without doing a bad b movie so I will also try to do Galaxy Of the of the Dinosaurs.

Looking forward to jumping back into things!

Mudbound Hurts But it was Worth it

Mudbound
2017 | Color | 2 Hour 14 Min | Drama | R | Armory Films

Director: Dee Rees

Writers:
Virgil Williams (screenplay by)
Dee Rees (screenplay by)

Stars:
Carey Mulligan
Garrett Hedlund
Jason Clarke

Two men return home from World War II to work on a farm in rural Mississippi, where they struggle to deal with racism and adjusting to life after the war.

With all the Oscar buzz and Golden Globe talk, I had no clue what this was but when it won the Robert Altman award at the Independent Spirit Awards  I took notice. And when I saw it was on Netflix it was something I was going to dig into. I love period pieces and have always said I grew up in the wrong era well this movie proves me wrong.

The movie opens with two brothers looking to bury their dead father when a black family role's up for some reason, you can feel the tension early on. And it is at this point that I almost gave up on the movie as we switch to a flashback mode that at first is really hard to focus on. We are introduced to a few families as they go off in there own ways. But I stuck with it and man does Mudbound take you on a ride to hell and back!

Mudbound evokes so many emotions from stress to confusion, love to hate, fear and being overwhelmed. At times this movie did what it set out to do get us talking but for me, it also pissed me off that our ancestors where such A-holes!  The movie deals with struggles, war, and of course racism. And boy does the racism hurt. I went through so much emotion watching their stories unfold in front of me. It was a roller coaster ride that I can say I'm glad I went on and I can not say it enough you should take the ride too.

With an overpowering story, we are also treated to a beautifully shot look into the farm life in the south during the 40's. I felt dirty and muddy my self thanks to amazing work from DP Rachel Morrison who is coming hot off of Black Panther. Although Dee Rees is not a household name just yet she will be soon. Her work on this movie is breathtaking and flawless.  The cast as well works so well and let me tell you I have no problem hating Jonathan Banks as Pappy right up till the credits his character made my skin crawl. Jason Mitchell also deserves more credit for his role and the same goes for Carey Mulligan who ripped at my heartstrings for two painful hours.  And none of the negatively I write is negative they did what they were asked to do and wow they hit the right notes. I understand the buzz was for Mary J. Blige she was good but so was the rest of this cast.

I grew up on clean gunmen of the westerns on tv to wanting to live in Mayberry when times seemed simple and laid back. Sure I understand what slavery was and at a young age was taught how to respect all people that God has put on this planet even if they did not look like me but Mudbound has made me feel dirty for feeling that way. When my Nanna would say "No you really did not want to grow up back then" I think I get it now. Watch this movie it is very strong and will have you thinking, don't let the first 10 minutes keep you away. We may have come a long way but we still have a ways to go.

When gangsters meet vampires, there's bloody hell to pay...

Bonnie and Clyde Vs Dracula
2008 | Color | 1 Hour 31 Min | Action Horror | R | Indican Pictures

Director: Timothy Friend

Writer: Timothy Friend

Stars:
Tiffany Shepis
Trent Haaga
Allen Lowman

After their latest heist goes wrong legendary outlaw couple Bonnie & Clyde are on the run from the law and in need of fast money to fix up their companion who was shot during the robbery. Finding shelter in a small town they crash at the mansion of the notorious Dr. Loveless. When Bonnie & Clyde arrive at the Doctor’s mansion they discover he has a secret. Deep in his cellar, the recently revived Dracula awaits…and when gangsters meet vampires, there’s bloody hell to pay.

Although low on gore and Vampires Timothy Friend weaves a fun story of bad guys taking on bad guys. We basically have two totally separate stories here that don’t intertwine until the last act but when they finally do meet we are treated to a beautiful ending that wraps up this odd story. But first, we have Bonnie & Clyde on the road after a botched robbery. With very few options, they decide to head to Clyde’s friend Henry’s place that’s in the middle of nowhere.  A desperate Clyde conspires with his dimwitted buddy Henry to rob a local moonshiner and his big city customer at the same time. When one of their crew gets shot during the robbery, Bonnie goes off to get help but ends up at the mansion of Dr. Loveless who just happens to have a Vampire he has resurrected from the dead.

Honestly, this movie was a ton of fun looks fabulous and did a great job making a period piece look authentic. Filmed in St. Joesphs Missouri it made for a perfect backdrop for this story. The pace and editing on BCvD really keeping you tuned in as we turn every corner. The soundtrack although not much at times fill's in the scenes nicely when needed. And when I say a beautiful ending most of that comes from the director of photography and how the music was dropped in. I don't want to give anything away but during one of the final moments the character Annabel makes her way in slow-mo through a hoard of vampires and was done so well I forgot about any negative feeling I may have had and watch in awe, the moment was filmed perfectly.

Ok, lets talk for a sec, can we? I have never been a Tiffany Shepis fan, in fact, her early work with Troma drove me nuts but she is America's scream queen and I have just let that be. In BCvD she is fantastic! From the bottom of my heart, I loved this woman as Bonnie she totally rocked her role and her leading man Trent Haaga who I think is the king of the B movies and does not get enough respect make this movie per cinema gold! They are so electrifying on screen together that you just can't wait for the story to focus back on them.

Being a low budget flick fans already know not to expect much on the lines of gore but Dr. Loveless has a nice creep factor and the directors brother Russel who played the Vampire where very conceiving in their makeup. Also with a small part was Jennifer Friend who has a Ph.D. in teaching plays Loveless's sister and was amazing as the childlike adult she really steals the show at the end in so many ways.

In the end, you really are treated to a different story excellent camera work a fantastic cast even with its low budget this movie really works!

Director: Steven Lisberger

Writers:
Steven Lisberger
Roger Allers

Stars:
Gilda Radner
Billy Crystal

Before writing Tron Steven Lisberger gave us a fun ride with one of my childhood hits Animalympics just like the title implies this delightful animated film that spoofs TV coverage of the Olympic Games in which all the competitors are species of animals from around the world hits DVD for the first time April 3rd thanks to Hen's Tooth Video.

Using the vocal talents of Billy Crystal, Gilda Radner, Harry Shearer and Michael Fremer, Animalympics skewers sports broadcasts – annoying commentators in particular – and traditional Olympic events from gymnastics and figure skating to platform diving and bobsledding. Journey to the four corners of the animal kingdom and experience all the joy and sorrow of athletic competition . . . the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat!

Looking forward to tracking this down although the $15 price tag may slow me down just a bit.

5 for Free

This week how about the Top Five Flicks you can watch for free on Vudu? Starting off number 5...

Showgirls

That's right how about a little seduction, passion and power struggles unfold as the creators of BASIC INSTINCT blow the lid off the seemingly glamorous world of Las Vegas show dancing in this controversial film that stars Elizabeth Berkley.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

It's not easy being a drag queen in this 1994 comedy. Resplendent in flamboyant ball gowns, looking down over the vast red Australian desert: for three showgirls, Tick, Adam, and Ralph, it was the dream of a lifetime, a four-week cabaret engagement in Alice Springs. The problem is simply getting there intact, along with their bus Priscilla.

Final Cut

Robin Williams and Mira Sorvino star in this 2004 thriller with acclaimed actor Jim Caviezel in this startling look at the dark side of modern technology. In the not-too-distant future, implanted microchips record every single moment of a person's life. It's up to a "cutter" like Alan (Williams) to edit the deceased's lifetime into a final memorial film. But after he views a terrible secret, Alan finds his own life in jeopardy in this mind-blowing sci-fi thriller packed with shocking twists and turns.

Saved!

This 2004 comedy starring "Good girl" Mandy Moore as Mary and her domineering best friend, Hilary Faye, together they are starting their senior year at the top of the social food chain at American Eagle Christian High School - that is until Mary's boyfriend tells her he thinks he might be gay.

And of course the Horror sequel from 2003,

Jeepers Creepers 2

The Creeper returns to feast on a group of high-school varsity athletes and cheerleaders stranded on a broken-down bus next to a remote rural highway.

Not a bad little line up of free movies! Let me know if you plan on watching any of these this month.
