A little Svengoolie News

This week on MeTv will be "Island of Lost Souls"

So if you have never seen Svengoolie somebody over on the youtube posted the first 3 minutes of the intro.

Also this week Sven has said "we will be showing  “The Mummy’s Ghost” with John Carradine- in 2012."
And if that was not enough hinted to showing the Car as well. In his blog he was warning his new viewers  about Svensurround "I continue to hear from viewers about the Flash Gordon Svensurround episode…and the verdict is almost entirely “thumbs up”! That gives me some hope for when we run “The Car”, which is just loaded with Svensurround" said Svengoolie. "I’m sure there will be a few complaints that I have ruined this great “classic”. As I’ve said before- damned if you do, damned if you don’t. You can’t please everyone. I especially enjoy when said complainers react with such outrage when I honestly suggest that, if they want to see the movie untouched". I love the classic bit. Sure The Car is not the greatest movie on the planet but as a kid I loved this movie! And I'm a big fan of Svensurround as well. Its not over the top and most of the time it makes the movie more tolerable. I watched a horror host over do it with Fart and burp noise once and I'm not sure that I have watched that show again.

Once I get the newsletter you can bet I will post it here on Saturdays. Sure hope some of you can catch Sven or your local Me-Tv their is nothing better on a cold winters night.

Also sorry for the lack of post's this past week work is really demanding right now and will be the first week of December. This makes me cringe a little as we head into the Creepmas countdown! I will do my best I promise and I can't wait to see what others have to post.

Turkey's Away

Sorry  for the lack of post's this week I will try and get caught up soon. With Thanksgiving on our heels and while working retail Black Friday is on my mind. Not to mention inventory the first week of December. Yesterday was Ella's Diabetes 3 month follow up her A1C was a little higher than we would have liked. She came in at 8.9% they would really like her to be under 8%. Other then those things look good. So just a quick share this week.

WKRP Turkey Drop

If I don't get a chance to say it later Happy Thanksgiving.

Free Music Monday New Steelheart Single

On Halloween Steelheart updated their website and are preparing a new album. Right now they are offering a free download to their new song "Black Dog".

Steelheart is a band fronted by Miljenko Matijevic. Mili’s powerful voice and multi-octave range have become the heart and soul of the band. Although they began as a glam band in the early 90s, Mili has recently reformed the band and turned it away from the glam scene. Steelheart's new sound is modern and edgy while still retaining overtones of Miljenko Matijevic's roots.

Press kits

Slaughter asked Steelheart to perform a show which would occur in Denver, Colorado. The show took place on Halloween night, a night which will forever be remembered by Steelheart fans. While performing, “Dancing in the Fire”, a hit from the “Tangled in Reins” album, Matijevic decided to climb a lighting truss, which was improperly secured. Matijevic tried to evade the massive rig, but without success. The 1000 pound truss hit Matijevic on the back of the head, driving him face first into the stage, breaking his nose, cheekbone, jaw and twisting his spine. Matijevic miraculously found the strength to walk off the stage and he was immediately taken to a hospital. “Steelheart” ended that night.

Four years later, Matijevic formed a new version of Steelheart with Kenny Kanowski (guitars), Vincent Mele (bass) and Alex Makarovich (drums) to record and release the album “Wait”. The album was very different to the previous two albums. The single “Wait” went #1 in many Asian countries; however, that was the main area of the album’s success, the grunge invasion causing the American-European markets to be near closed to classic rock. Original member James Ward joined Steelheart on the tour supporting the album. Also on the “Wait” album, “We All Die Young”, the first track, was in the motion picture, “Rock Star,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston.

I invite you to listen to the whole album. If you were to listen to one song I highly recommend "Good 2b Alive"

Let it Snow??

See dad it snowed.

So today the kids just could not wait for me to get home. When I got to the sitters they had their coats and out the door they went. I love the magic of the first snowfall but this was more like ice pellets not pretty at all. Never the less they were overjoyed to run around in it.

Price Cut For The Home Alone House

The Winnetka mansion where the 1990 movie "Home Alone" was filmed has undergone a second price cut, to $1.95 million.

It's the latest price drop for the three-story brick mansion, whose owners, John and Cynthia Abendshien, allowed filmmakers to use the house in the popular movie and its first sequel. The Abendshiens listed it in May for $2.4 million and reduced their asking price to $2.18 million in June.

The owners, John and Cynthia Abendshien, had only lived for a year and a half in the house when Chris Columbus, the film's director, came knocking at their door.

"'Are you ready yet?'" the couple recalls Columbus asking. Prior to moving to the property, the Abendshiens were approached to have their previous home appear in "Uncle Buck," another film written by John Hughes and starring Macaulay Culkin.

Located in the well-heeled Chicago suburb of Winnetka, Ill., the 4,250 square foot, the three-story home looks just as picturesque today as it did for the 1990 theatrical release of the film.

Maybe I'll go ask for a raise tomorrow.

Nick Boynton Diabetes Spotlight

Nick Boynton Biography

Claim to Fame: NHL Hockey Player
DOB: January 14, 1979
Diabetes Type: 1

Boynton is a professional hockey player best known for playing on a number of teams within the National Hockey League, particularly the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks. A born athlete, Boynton was raised in Nobleton, Ontario, Canada. He grew up on the ice, playing minor hockey for local teams and displaying his athletic prowess. In 1994, at the age of 15, Boynton skated his way into the Metro Junior Hockey League, a branch of the Ontario Hockey League, playing for the Caledon Canadian Jr. A. club.

In 1999, what should have been a banner year for the young player who was drafted by the NHL’s Boston Bruins, turned out to be a period marked by fear and illness. Suffering from extreme fatigue, thirst, and weight-loss, Boynton was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes while attending a training camp in Boston, after his illness was initially misdiagnosed as type 2 diabetes.

Boynton quickly adapted to his life with diabetes and refused to let it stand in the way of his hockey career. He continued to play for the Boston Bruins until he was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in 2006. According to fellow players and coaches, Boynton remained aggressive and unstoppable — knowing what his body needed and how to manage his diabetes allowed him to be dominant on the ice. He played for the Coyotes until 2008 when he was traded to the Florida Panthers, the Anaheim Ducks, and eventually the Chicago Blackhawks.

In 2010, the Chicago Blackhawks, with Boynton at right defenseman, beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4 to 2 in the championship game to win the Stanley Cup. Boynton then became an unrestricted free agent, and he now has the freedom to choose what team he plays for and for how long.

Off the ice, Boynton is an active member of the diabetes community. He enjoys working with the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston to educate and motivate children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

“It surprised me how many kids there are with type 1 diabetes,” Boynton said in a 2004 interview with Diabetes Health, “I knew nothing about the disease until I was diagnosed. It’s amazing — I get so many letters from the kids at Joslin, and I appreciate all the support I get from them, it’s really nice.”

Boynton has recently become an advocate for insulin pump therapy, after adopting the technology to help him manage his own diabetes. “I feel great,” says Boynton, describing his experience with the pump. “The pump really helps my blood glucose control. Before using the pump, once in a while, I’d have a 240 or a 300. But with the pump, I’ve been able to keep it closer in check.” Boynton’s determination to stay in control of his diabetes is a powerful example that living with diabetes doesn’t mean you can’t live a healthy and happy life full of success!

November is Diabetes Month Please Take the Pledge

With nearly 26 million children and adults in American living with diabetes, and another 79 million at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes, the disease is taking a devastating physical, emotional and financial toll on our country. Yet, most Americans don’t consider diabetes a serious matter. They feel it is someone else’s responsibility; someone else’s problem.
Recent numbers by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention paint a desperate situation of where we are at, and where we are headed:

  • Every 17 seconds, someone is diagnosed with diabetes.
  • Diabetes kills more people each year than breast cancer and AIDS combined.
  • Recent estimates project that as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless we take steps to Stop Diabetes.
Now is the time to act.
Become Involved in American Diabetes Month® 2011
