A team of environmentalists investigating "uncharted territory" find that someone, or rather, something has already made the land its home and proceeds to take the team out, one by one. Meanwhile, a young couple hoping for reconciliation with a long lost brother eventually find themselves in the path of the monster.

Sooooo when I took this assignment to review a "Bigfoot" movie for Radiation-Scarred Reviews I could not wait to jump in to a movie I picked up cheap "Primal". Holy S**t I should have left this on the junk table! This movie was made for $6,000.00.  That really does not bother me I will sit and watch most low budget yeti dung but today I'm here to save your life from it! The straight to video (Really straight like out of the camcorder and into Blockbusters everywhere.) opens with 3 lost college kids getting whacked by a real poor, real fake looking Bigfoot. No really, if a rubber handed, rubber foot shag rug came after me I would die laughing.

Oooo run!
Next we move onto a uncomfortable odd pairing of a sister seeking her wierd brother with her soon to be husband. This is the meat of the story. The sister Julie talking her brother park ranger Wade into coming home for her wedding. But Wade has been in the forest all alone for years tracking the beast so of course for plot reasons he does not want to leave.

Oh and there is this environmental group running around not sure what they are looking for but the Sasquatch always seems to find them. This is the only time in the movie that you will find a few likable characters.

So lets talk Sasquatch, that's why we are here right? I already covered the bad look of the creature but let's talk about the death sequences for a moment. At first I was so ticked by the way they did it. They would use odd camara angles, shaky movement, and  over the top editing. But the more you see it, you realize this is to help keep away from CG which is a plus in my book.

OK so the cast was just OK. No nudity, all the blood comes from after the fact point of view. The acting was not bad for a low budget movie the idea was OK nothing new or over the top. Would I recommend this movie? Well yes and no. If your a fan of Bigfoot movies you may get a kick out of Primal. If your not, skip it don't even pick this up and think about it. Mine cost a quarter at a book sale sure wish I could get that back.

Carrie 2013

March 15th 2013 MGM with haunt us with their remake/re-adaptation of Stephen King's novel Carrie. This time out the movie is set to star Chole Moretez, Julianne Moore, and Judy Greer.

Moore has talked about  Margaret White's mental state, "This woman has clearly had a psychotic break, perhaps several. But what's sad about it for me is that she's clearly sick and here's this poor child in the thrall of this person who is seriously ill." Moore continued about her roll, "And on top of that, they have his mother-daughter relationship. So we want to make that relationship as meaningful as possible, even thought it is horrible and destructive."

Looking forward to Carrie White releaseing her telekinetic prowess and unleash's on her peers and zealot mother. Until then here are the first look photos from Entertainment Weekly.

Here You Go Creepmas Fans

Here is your chance to help independent film group Fighting Owl Films make a short film based on our favorite super hero the Mythical Krampus. They just launched an IndieGoGO compaign over at Fighting Owl Films

The new film, Night of the Krampus, features a running time of around a half hour and revisits key characters from The Night Shift on a whole new adventure. The holiday-themed story delves into the mythology of Krampus, a legendary creature said to travel with Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. While Santa rewards the good girls and boys of the world, Krampus punishes the naughty. But that’s just a myth…or is it? When the naughty kids of a suburban neighborhood vanish in the weeks leading up to Christmas, evidence points to the creature's existence. It’s up to supernatural investigators Rue Morgan, Claire Rennfield and Herbie West to solve the mystery, save the children and face-off against the deadly Krampus.

Wizard World Chicago Comic Con

No body seemed to care that we where dressed in black and had zombie wrist bands on. So here are a few photos and a quick video for your enjoyment.

The Mummy
1932 | B&W | 73 Minutes | 1.37:1 | NR | Horror | Mono | Universal

Director:
Karl Freund

Writers:
Nina Wilcox Putnam
Richard Schayer

Stars:
Boris Karloff
Zita Johann
David Manners

In 1921 a field expedition in Egypt discovers the mummy of ancient Egyptian prince Im-Ho-Tep, who was condemned and buried alive for sacrilege. Also found in the tomb is the Scroll of Thoth, which can bring the dead back to life. One night a young member of the expedition reads the Scroll out loud, and then goes insane, realizing that he has brought Im-Ho-Tep back to life. Ten years later, disguised as a modern Egyptian, the mummy attempts to reunite with his lost love, an ancient princess who has been reincarnated into a beautiful young woman.

Here is some fun trivia for The Mummy:

Jack Pierce
This is the only Universal monster of the time without a fictional antecedent. Large segments of the movie are scene-by-scene parallels of the movie Dracula. An ankh symbol (the ancient Egyptian glyph for "life") is substituted for the crucifix of the earlier movie. Even Edward Van Sloan's character, Dr. Muller, is quite analogous to his Dr. Van Helsing from the vampire film.

Boris Karloff's mummy makeup is based on the appearance of Ramses III; makeup artist Jack P. Pierce spent eight hours a day applying Karloff's makeup.

The flashback scenes in ancient Egypt were designed to resemble a silent film, with no dialog, exaggerated make-up and gestures, and a faster camera speed, to suggest the great antiquity of the events portrayed.

Killjoy Goes to Hell Trailer!!

Oh Hell Yeah Full Moon Horror was not clowning around this week. They are giving us a look at the up coming killer clown movie Killjoy Goes to Hell.

Synopsis:
The demon clown Killjoy is on trial in Hell! Having failed in his last outing to claim his victim's soul, he must face the devil himself in Hell's courtroom and prove that he's evil and worthy of a demon. His only hope is the testimony of his last victim and a trial by combat. Killjoy's murderous minions Batty Boop, Punchy, and Freakshow plot a daring rescue attempt, but they have nosy detectives, renegade clowns, and a whole mess of demons in their way. If they fail, Killjoy is damned to oblivion, never to return!

I'm a big fan of this series with the 3rd one just blowing many fans away. The 4Th one on the other hand looks like it will suffer from the worn out look of no location syndrome that has been plaguing the last few Full Moon features.

Never the less Trent Haaga is back and he plays one hell of a clown. Watch for Killjoy Goes to Hell later this fall.

Svengoolie Report from Flashback Weekend

One of the many highlights for me at Flashback would be my annual trek to shake hands with one of the best. After almost missing out last year I made sure to hop in line at 2:00. Sure, I was not surprised at the super long line that took me around the corner and almost to the elevator. What surprised me more was that all these fans we're passing up  the John Carpenter Q&A.

Great Fan art!
Waiting to get my book inked

Every year you see something new in line. This year was truly about the fan art and the "Haunting Tales of Horrorbles" Comic. I missed out on the road trip early this year to Berwyn to pick this book up. So when I received the email from John Araza that they would be selling the books in the dealer room but he was also going to bring along Dan Dougherty and Rafael Nieves I could not have been any happier.

This year was truly funny to be in line. The people around me just weren't to sure of the facts about Mr. Goolie and so many times I wanted to turn around and correct  them. Of course I did once or twice but never crossing the line. Its always fun at Flashback to share your passion for Horror movies with the fans you're in line with. It was just odd that I had more knowledge on a horror host then most.

One of the funnier moments came when the lady behind me asked how much for an autograph, well this lead to a fun game of what is on Svengoolie tonight. When the lady cracked under pressure the staff jokingly told her $49.95.

After meeting Svengoolie I thanked him once again and told him I'll see him next year he laughed and told me to head over to Joliet next week. His staff was super fun and poked fun at the fact I had two personal photographers with me. Even Sven got a chuckle out all the flashes from the many cameras around us.

We ended up missing the costume contest this year to run over to Comic Con and meet up with a few friends and take a some pictures. We did make it back on time to see the Zombie pin up contest. I will post that video later this week. Until then enjoy the little video I put together.

Meg Foster talks Lords of Salem

Meg Foster
First sorry for the lack of Flashback post's so far I have been under the weather. So first up will be a small post. Meg Foster of They Live filled us with some tid bits about Rob Zombie and his new movie Lords Of Salem. Foster will play ( a witch possibly) by the name of  Margaret Morgan.

Here is the story so far:

Heidi, a blond rock chick, DJs at a local radio station, and together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster) forms part of the "Big H Radio Team." A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, a gift of the Lords. She assumes it's a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords' record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later, Whitey plays the Lords' record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with his listeners. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon, Heidi and her cohorts are far from the rock spectacle they're expecting. The original Lords of Salem are returning and they're out for blood.

So here is a short video of Foster talking about Lords of Salem and Rob Zombie.

A city screams in TERROR!

The Creature Walks Among Us
1956 | B&W | 76 Minutes | 1.85:1 | NR | Horror | Mono | Universal

Director: John Sherwood

Writer: Arthur A. Ross

Stars:
Jeff Morrow
Rex Reason
Leigh Snowden

In this third and final Gill-Man feature, the Creature is captured and turned into an air-breather by a rich mad scientist. This makes the Creature very unhappy, and he escapes, killing people and setting fires in the process.

Make sure to watch for the scene when the creature throws Dr. Barton from the balcony, the wire holding him will flash in the light. And if that wire act is not enough watch during the big climax when the creature escapes and begins throwing furniture around you can see the wire attached to the separate pieces!

Flashback Weekend Big News!

With Flashback Weekend only 10 days away Full Moon Horror has announced it will premier "H.P. Lovecraft's The Evil Clergyman". If seeing Svengoolie was not enough meeting Richard Band is going to be a huge must see! Here is the press release from Charles Band:

“H.P. LOVECRAFT’s THE EVIL CLERGYMAN”
TO WORLD PREMIERE AT FLASHBACK WEEKEND
CHICAGO HORROR CONVENTION
AUGUST 10-12, 2012
MUVICO THEATERS, ROSEMONT, IL

In 1987 Charles Band directed “PULSESPONDERS”, an anthology film comprised of short film sequels to the biggest hits of Empire Pictures; H.P. LOVECRAFT’s THE EVIL CLERGYMAN”, the first (and unseen) “TRANCERS” sequel, and a sequel to “THE DUNGEONMASTER”. “PULSEPOUNDERS” was shot and edited in 1988 before circumstances prevented it from being released. “PULSEPOUNDERS” was thought to be a lost film. For the last 25 years, fans have clamored to see it.

Recently, a “PULSEPOUNDERS” work print was discovered. Charles Band and a team of digital experts have been working for the last year digitally restoring it. Richard Band, the composer of classic film scores such as “RE-ANIMATOR”and “PUPPER MASTER” has composed an original lavish 1980’s style score for it! The first of the “lost” “PULSEPOUNDERS” episodes to be restored, “H.P.’s Lovecraft’s THE EVIL CLERGYMAN” re-united horrors hottest duo; Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton! “THE EVIL CLERGYMAN” also stars horror legends David Warner and David Gale (Dr. Hill from “RE-ANIMATOR”).

Attending this historic cinematic event will be director Charles Band, stars Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, and composer Richard Band.

PLUS! Richard Band will be having a super-limited supply of the Evil Clergyman original score CD for sale which he’ll be signing.

This is great news as my brother and I finalize plans for our trip on Saturday. If we have the funds I will be checking this out and hope to have a review for you. For a while the only reason for going this year was to pick up Kane Hodder's Book and to see Svengoolie's new Coffin. Now Richard Band and the new Horrables comic have sealed the deal for us. Watch for my flashback write up next weekend if your in the Chicago area please check out this fantastic  convention --> FlashBack Weekend<--
