What Did I Watch In March Not Much

As you can see March was still a slow movie-watching month around here. Join me as I take look back on what I watched and how I ranked these flicks on Letterbox.com.

Watched on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. I really enjoyed Police Academy 2 for what it is worth. This is also the first time the series went PG so us young kids could catch it on the big screen back in 1985!

Watched on Sunday, March 22, 2020. So this was part of the new Watch Party you can do with Netflix. A few of us camp buddies got together to check this one out. I'm not sure if it really holds up and still not sure why we need a sequel. In the end, it was more fun chatting with friends.

"If anyone can defeat the Coronavirus it’s Daniel Son! You can’t beat that 80s soundtrack!" That's what I wrote on March 22nd. Who would have guessed that the COVID would take over our lives like it has? The cool part about watching Karate Kid both girls knew what we were watching and sat down to join us.

Still a classic!

Watched this during one of those nights I was having trouble sleeping. If you are a fan of music this is a fun ride if your a fan of ZZ Top this should be at the top of your list. I would have been happier with another hour! Just the right blend of old and new.

Skip the Tiger King watch this instead.

Watched on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Well, let's just say the wife made me do it. It's her favorite so what do you do.

Watched on Friday, March 6, 2020. I was bored ok and it was on so you know why not. It still holds up fine and I just might go back and watch the others after I finish Police Acadamy.

Ok so I was to do a blog hop and this was the flick I picked. Even tho I never did write the post it's probably a good thing. This movie was so so bad it took me days to watch it!  In fact, I could not finish it there are still ten minutes left and I can not do it! If you like dumb movies with naked girls than this one is for you.

This sucked so bad!

So there you go a whopping 7 movies! Thanks to the Coronaviuras I should be able to pass that up I have a major backlog to take care of.

The King Has Returned.

The Lion King
2019 | PG | 1 Hr 58 Min | Family | Disney

Director:
Jon Favreau

Writers:
Jeff Nathanson
Irene Mecchi

Stars:
Donald Glover
Beyoncé
Seth Rogen

Synopsis:
Disney’s The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, journeys to the African savanna, where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy, and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

The Circle of Life

We all love the story of the Lion King but we seem to throw a ton of hate towards these live-action retelling story's. To this day I'm still not sure why? The Lion King flat out looks amazing and quite breathtaking at times. You really lose your self into the pride lands. Disney utilizes pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way. Honestly, you sometimes question yourself is that real or done on a computer, that is how amazing this movie looks. I do understand that the original movie is pure magic with its wonderful animation and energy it that gets you to dance and sing along with the many musical numbers that are pure joy. Even though the energy for this one is a little lackluster the love and magic are still all around.

Life's Not Fair

The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala. James Earl Jones who is the strongest actor playing Mufasa and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar who helps keep a stronger pace with the original. Where this movie falls flat for me and many others I assume would be Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon. Nothing and I mean nothing was as heartwarming as Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella they alone made the 1994 Lion King one of the greatest movies of all time. Rogen is ok he has some good moments but sadly Eichner was really flat. In fact, his performance at times made him push his inner Lane too much. Trust me this being the one weak link is still not that bad!

I Just Can't Wait To Be King!

The early 90s were a magical time for Disney animation and with hits like Aladdin and Lion King coming to life 2019 it was a fantastic year for Disney. Lion King's story is still one of the best and retold frame by frame. This time around we are treated to stunning new animation that pops off the screen. With the same catchy show tunes, this 2-hour flick really flys by. It's so much fun to revisit our friends at Pride Rock that your family will enjoy every moment. For the younger generation this being their Lion King I'm ok with that but make sure to take some time down the road and share the classic from 1994 with them.

Hakuna Matata

From the early cartoon series, the greatest pre-qual (Lion King 1 1/2), and Broadway magic Lion King will live on for a long long time. So many generations will enjoy this story in one fashion or another. For so many of us, Lion King is one of the greatest stories ever told. And the 2019 version is just as magical as the rest and for a generation that has moved away from traditional art this is a welcomed retelling that will be around to please their younger generation as well. This cinematic marvel should not be skipped by us the older generation. Lion King is now streaming on Disney+.

Week Three

The videos are getting a little less interesting I feel only because I'm now in the stay at home mode. Thanks to asthma my job rather keep me safe and pay me for a few weeks to do so. You would think that would be an easy thing to do but as a leader, in the building, I'm struggling with leaving my team behind. It's still a crazy mess at the store with so many working extra due to being short-handed.

What was your 12th Birthday Song?

Ok, so social media seems to be all anybody has right now so even I have jumped on from time to time. One of my favorite questions out there was what was the number one song on your 12th birthday.  So here you go this would be our family playlist for our 12th birthdays.

When I first looked this up I came up with I love Rock and Roll and thought how cool. Sadly I was doing something wrong but I'm not sad by this one...

Well, my wife missed Billie Jean by a week and is stuck with this 80s one-hit-wonder. So lovingly I looked in her eyes and told her "she's dirty" no really I did I still have the slap mark to prove it.

My poor child when she turned 12 she was dancing around to Sia and her Cheap Thrills! Ella is all about music so she was a little bummed that this had to be her song. (as she is belting out "Best of Both Worlds" by Hanna Montana from her bedroom)

Annnnnd this odd song has been number one for the past 7 weeks just getting dethroned by Blinding Lights by the Weekend. I just asked my 12-year-old if she has ever heard it and she said kind of buy gross.

Ok so leave a comment below what was the number one song on your 12th Birthday? PS skip that Box song it is awful.

We need a little laugh today.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness

Tiger King
2020 | TV-MA | 7 Episodes | Documentary | Netflix

Stars:
Carole Baskin
Joe Exotic
Bhagavan Antle

Synopsis:
Among the eccentrics and cult personalities in the stranger-than-fiction world of big cat owners, few stand out more than Joe Exotic, a mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and a country-western singer who presides over an Oklahoma roadside zoo. Charismatic but misguided, Joe and an unbelievable cast of characters including drug kingpins, conmen, and cult leaders all share a passion for big cats and the status and attention their dangerous menageries garner. But things take a dark turn when Carole Baskin, an animal activist and owner of a big cat sanctuary, threatens to put them out of business, stoking a rivalry that eventually leads to Joe's arrest for a murder-for-hire plot and reveals a twisted tale where the only thing more dangerous than a big cat is its owner.

So do you need an escape from this whole COVID-19 thing? Sick of no sports to watch? How about looking for the train wreck that is blowing up your social media? Well, then Tiger King is differently a good place to be. This one will definitely help you escape the world around you for a few moments of your day. It will also have you questioning the whole private Zoo deal!

Although the series chronicles the bizarre life and murder-for-hire trial of the flamboyant former zoo operator, Joe Exotic isn't the sole convicted felon or even the lone polygamist featured in the series. He's not the only one to have a spouse die under unusual circumstances.  Joe Exotic isn't the strangest or shadiest character featured in Netflix's anticipated new documentary series and that my friends will be what drives you to power watch this one!

From the first episode, rookie filmmaker Eric Goode catches the proverbial tiger by the tale while investigating an illegal reptile dealer, as the underworld snake handler shows off a snow leopard he just bought and is keeping caged in his van in the Florida summer heat. For the next five years, Goode delved into the world of big-cat owners and private zoos, getting caught up in the bitter feud between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin, the crusading owner of Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida.

It's hard to say who the real nut job is here but I'm going with Carole Baskin! And if you want my option yes she did kill her husband! And I'm sure he was fed to the dang tigers! The case was never officially closed, but the last time anything significant happened was in 2011, when the police asked Ms. Baskin to take a polygraph. She refused! But thanks to this documentary leads are once again pouring in and I say she will crack and then join Joe in prison.

If you have not seen the show yet skip ahead to the rating portion.

Yes, Joe seemed crazy and yeah he sure put the evidence out there of what he wanted to do to this lady but do I think he was set up? Yes sadly yes! Should he be in prison most likely but not for murder for hire. By the end of the series, you find yourself thinking and wondering did he get set up by these goons? Maybe someday we will hear the truth.

Who would have thunk the crazy world of underground tigers was so deep and off the chain! Is Tiger King worth all the internet hype? Sure, It will draw you in and hold you tight allowing you to be trapped in your house like an armchair lawyer wannabe! I have to say this came at the right time with everybody needing to stay home begging for something to do. If you're on the fence take the leap.

Crip Camp

Crip Camp
2020 | R | 1 Hr 46 Min | Documenty | Netflix

Directors:
James Lebrecht
Nicole Newnham
Writers:
James Lebrecht
Nicole Newnham
Stars:
Larry Allison
Dennis Billups
HolLynn D'Lil

Synopsis:
In the early 1970s, teenagers with disabilities faced a future shaped by isolation, discrimination, and institutionalization. Camp Jened, a ramshackle camp "for the handicapped" in the Catskills, exploded those confines. Jened was their freewheeling Utopia, a place with summertime sports, smoking and makeout sessions awaiting everyone, and campers who felt fulfilled as human beings. Their bonds endured as they migrated West to Berkeley, California - a promised land for a growing and diverse disability community - were friends from Camp Jened realized that disruption and unity might secure life-changing accessibility for millions. Co-directed by Emmy®-winning filmmaker Nicole Newnham and film mixer and former camper Jim LeBrecht, this joyous and exuberant documentary arrives the same year as the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, at a time when the country's largest minority group still battles daily for the freedom to exist.

If I was ever to tell you to watch something this would be the one I would hope you all watch. Such a warm-hearted look at the fight many fought to get rights for the handicap world. Without these brave souls, we would not have ramps on the streets or kids in school let alone transportation around town.

I do wish there was more about the camp and a little less about the fight but let's face it I'm a camp guy at heart so of course, I wanted more. But still, a fun look at camp life way back in the 70s even if I was cringing of the fact they were running with chairs and did not always have an attendant. We changed the no run rule in around 1987 as it was deemed unsafe so to see it again made me squirm a little. The biggest take away from Crip Camp has to be Friendship! And simply how friendship can change the world! Honestly check out Crip Camp it is such a fun look back and a moving tribute to those who helped make a change for many lives.
