From the man the wrote The Wolfman, Frankenstein meets the Wolfman, and Son of Dracula gets behind the camera for only the second time to bring us Bride of the Gorilla! And even if this movie is a complete slow burner the story of Voo Doo and witchcraft weave for a great story! Siodmak also brings with him a young man by the name of Raymond Burr who of course is Perry Mason! I was excited to watch Burr in something other than the …

Time to Smile

Image
Oh man, this blog has been on such a low this week and I'm sorry about that. So in light of everything that has gone one I do want to share with you what has to be my favorite video of camp so far. Tuesday was Hero day and some of my heroes came out to see us.

First, let's meet a few of them in the back is my little Brother Eric, My Brother In Law Craig (who brought his K-9 Unit Dessel with him) and Nate. That is Michael and Steve in the front! Other fireman did show up along with a few from the military this was a very cool day. So check out the video and let me know what you think.

Also, I finally have all the camp video's up on my youtube channel makes sure to give them a thumbs up! And I promise it's back to blogging I go! No more sadness time to smile.

Big News!

Stop the presses! Hold the Phone! Big updates coming to The Man Cave! Starting this week I'm proud to bring on a new Contributor Steve!! Steve was the main reason for starting this blog so it's great to have him on board. He will be covering more of the new movies out there along with plenty of Netflix coverage as well. Welcome, Steve to the Cave happy posting!

Also in Big News, this site has been excepted into the LAMB (Large Association of Movie Bloggers)

Sweet deal looking forward to posting with them. Our fist assignment will be Streets of Fire. Well if I can find a copy anyway.

Saying good bye hurts so much!

I understand it comes with the territory but losing a camper after camp is hard but to lose another just a few days after is downright unfair!  On Tuesday we lost another Hero in Dan who was the brain behind this year's Superhero theme. He was also the host of the podcast Across the Airwaves and this past week we talked about sponsoring each other. Dan, you will be missed!!

Reach For the Sky.

Starting to get back into the groove today. One more day off before I head back to work and the real world. Camp was so amazing this year going all out to make the 25th Anniversary special for everyone. Not many summer camps have Hot Air Balloons, Catered dinners, a live band, a DJ spinning the top dance tunes, and of course fireworks! I'm working on getting the videos uploaded to youtube today and I will post a few of them here just not all of them so please check out the channel for more camp fun later this week. For now, tho here is Steve and I reaching for the sky!

With over 112 campers this year we set a  record number for a week at Horizon Camp. Every cabin was packed. Add in the support staff, nurses and attendant volunteers, and we were 256 strong at camp this past week that is a lot of  Super Hero's!  And we aim to get bigger.

You will be missed Trimpe

Image
With one of the greatest camp weeks in my life comes some sad news. Yesterday on the way home Mike Trimpe lost his battle with Muscular Dystrophy. Mike has been a staple for Horizon well over 25 years and has been there from the start. He is the face of the association in so many ways from fundraisers to the loveable man he was for so many at camp. I have only known him for a few short years but I will never forget that he was the first person I saw on my first day. I know in the next few days I will be sharing more memories from the past week but today my heart is heavy.

Last night of camp

Image
Just a quick post as its 2 am and we have to get people up and out by 8am. Tonight was a wonderful dinner to celebrate 25 years for this organization! Food was catered in a rock band jammed well into the night along with a firework show! It was a wonderful way to close out the week. When I get home and I'm not doing this on an iPhone I will write up a much better post.
Good night for now Bob

Camp Day 5

Image
Wow, what a crazy day this has been! First the uncomfortable heat wave that kept us in side for movies and games.

Tonight's activity was dualing   pianos that was a ton of fun. Now at 10 o'clock the camp has a cook out every night and tonight we where about to get in line when I receive a text about storms. Upon looking at a weather map I could tell we only had a few minutes to head up to the cabin. And boy did we make it just in time!
But that is when the fun begins. The storm knocked out the power and the camp was running on a generator for only two hours. The problem is Steves bed he has an air mattress that does not have any battery backup. So here it is 2:30 in the morning and he just went to bed. Fingers crossed the power does not go out again.

Day 4 at camp

Image
I did something today that I have never done at camp and that comes with 25 years of experience. Today Steve and I went up in a hot air balloon! It was incredible and for Steve amazing! Steve does not like to be out of his comfort zone at all so day was so cool!

Days like today are why I volunteer for camp. Tomorrow should be interesting with temperatures hitting 100!

Day 2 at camp

Image
With more rain today and the start of a heat wave! With the rain and heat we also get mud! Mud and wheel chairs make for one serious mess.

After lunch today Steve and I took parts in the mystery dinner theater. He played a nerd and I a vampire. It was a ton of fun and Steve was the victim murdered by my sister the Blue Blaze.

Tonight was the pool party slash karaoke activities that where cut short when the sky lite up with lightning. Tomorrow is a big day with hot air balloons and a 25th  anniversary dinner party. Sounds like another hot day ahead minus the rai.

So again tonight 1:30 am a storm is  approaching quickly and Steve has  finally calmed down for a bit. Are cabin is set at 70 and it really feels cold! Steve is under 7 blankets on heated blanket and tonight I have built a tent around his head with hoodies to keep the cold air from blowing on him.
Until tomorrow have a great day.

Day One

Image
After an early start today I arrived for my 3rd year of camp for the Association of Horizon. This years theme Super Heroes! Activities today were simple get to know games.

Weather permitting tomorrow will be fun with night swimming, karaoke, and I'm part of a Murder Mystery.
So after 2 hours or more of getting Steve to bed it's now 1:30 AM time for me to turn in myself.

Pokemon Hunting

Image
Pokemon Go the new craze sweeping the nation so it seems. So tonight we headed over to the lake for a stroll looking for these things. It's different, to say the least. In fact there, where around 50 kids walking around the park making new friends and not at home playing Xbox is pretty darn cool. Way to go Nintendo this is a pretty neat thing you have done.

So, of course, I had to shot a video of this craziness. So do you or your kids take part in this madness make sure to comment below to let us know what you think? And of course, give us a thumb's up on YouTube.

Happy 4th

Happy 4th of July to everyone. Not sure what the weather is in your neck of the woods but I will take this 65 to 75 degrees any July! Sure in a few weeks when I leave for camp it will be back to the high 90's!

Baby your my Fireworks...

Image
Ok, gang just one more firework video. We had a little more fun with this one. Last night we packed up the car and headed to Utica, Il the home of Starved Rock State park. They always put on a great show. Also, take a moment to subscribe to my YouTube channel and gives this video a thumbs up.

Thanks
Bob

LaSalle Fest and Fireworks

Image
So last week was a crazy week around here. It was LaSalle Fest our yearly gathering in town. The main thing we take part in is our garage sale with a few other friends. This use to be a social gathering every year but we have gotten bigger and bigger and people that stop by referring to our sale as the "Sale of the Year" well they are kind of right. People ask weeks in advance if we are doing it and they start driving by slowly trying to get a glimpse. All I can say is it was one of our best sales ever. Sadly we were so busy I never got the chance to take pictures or video like I planned.

Of course, my oldest and I hit the road to check out the other sales and let's just say we walked away with some great scores. More on that later in the week. So despite how tired we were on Saturday we still packed up and headed down to the party for some fireworks. The problem with all of that would be we were way to close! They were lit off just under us and when they first went off …
