So let's start the new year off with a bang shall we? For starters, I will not go off on a rant on what was wrong with Star Wars and how I only liked it and did not love it! The movie looks great one of the best-looking films I have seen in age's. The story tho was pretty weak and full of J.J. Abrams fast pace baloney but I'm not going to go there I promise. Rather talk about the experience in a whole.

I never ever in a million years would have thought my girls would go to a Star Wars movie with me! NEVER! Not only was I a proud dad to be sitting with my 11-year-old on one side and my 8-year-old on the other I was more blown away on how much they were enjoying this movie!! I would imagine all the hype on the Disney Channel has helped me win this one. It seems to be on or talked about every few minutes. And then there is the Game Disney Infinity 3.0 that they received from Santa this year staring a few Star Wars figures.

Three cheers to Star Wars and Disney for giving this movie a strong and positive female lead! All my youngest talked about was how amazing Ray was and how much she loved her. Even more so than BB8. I can not express in words how it made me feel to watch her really enjoy this movie, she hardly moved in her seat. Even my oldest enjoyed it and was happy she went to see it on the big screen.  Even if the story was along the same lines as New Hope it was all new for them. They were seeing a galaxy far far away for the first time. I almost had tears in my eyes.

So let's talk about my view for just one second shall we? Here is why I did not like this movie all that much. Star Wars is about the cool villains and Stormtroopers. Now I will say they did get the Stormtroopers right to the point that maybe I will buy a few of those figures someday. But as far as the villain this guy sucked! He looks silly, it was so much cooler when he was a mystery in the trailers. Worse yet was the actor that played him, he was so bad and not scary at all!!!!! People might say they hate Phantom Menace but Darth Maul set the bar pretty high! This guy for me was so bad it almost ruined the movie for me.

But thank goodness for the main girl Ray she will keep me coming back along with her new sidekicks! They just better ramp up the bad guys!!

I just hope my girls do not grow up too fast and outgrow Star Wars to soon.

  1. First, I'd have to say I agree with your assessment. I tell people, "I didn't hate it." Let me out myself that I've never been a Star Wars nut. I was the right age (10 in 1977), but while I liked and enjoyed it, I wasn't crazy about it. I didn't collect the toys, cars or comics. I was a comic book fan, so that obsession went to Superman the Movie. My kids loved it and I'm happy to let them have that. I agree that Kylo Ren was the worst part of the movie. Very disappointing for a villain. He should have left the mask on.

  2. The problem I have with Star Wars is that after the first two movies, everything seems like a re-telling. Nobody can come up with an original story. It is such a formula.

  4. I agree about Kylo Ren. He came off to me as not being a very believable antagonist. For someone learning the dark side, he was not scary at all. He struggled dealing with Rey who had no force training at all. Even Finn got a lucky shot in on him. Kylo Ren is going to have to really step up his game. I just wasn't sold on him.
