C2E2 News

Sounds like Svengoolie will be meeting with fans sooner then we all thought! Saturday April 28th will see Sven shaking hands and signing autographs at C2E2 in Chicago. He will be limited in hours until he is back to full strength.

" As I’ve said, it will take a while for me to catch up and plan new shows- but- it’s coming up down the line!" commented Sven last weekend. This is all great news and I'm looking forward to bringing you more info on his return. In the mean time if you have not done so already go VOTE! Some other notable guest's at the event Kevin Smith, Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar. Of course there will be the Toy Hunter Himself Jordan Hembrough who should be a fun meet and greet.

Kick-Ass 2 First Look

When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world's first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she's forced to retire, leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with super team Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes. Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, though, Red Mist -- reborn as The Mother F%&*#r -- assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there's only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with all of them.

Yeah, I know Sex sells in advertising. Teen Steam with Alyssa Milano I get it! She is hot and she works out, but that's so not what they meant by Steam! What they really meant by that was the young teens renting this kidding porn found in the family aisle of your video store. Come on you mean to tell me girls rented this to work out no way! Teenage boys were getting the workout.

And this was long before the horrible Embrace of the Vampire. The best thing was this only runs 30 minutes not an hour and a half too long. Well, thanks to the power of youtube I can post the video for you to be the judge. Make sure to stop back next week for another trip down memory lane with another hot starlet from the '80's.

3 Bloody Brains just for the novelty alone.

Microwave Massacre
1983 | Color | 76 Minutes | 1.37:1 | NR | Horror | Reel Life Productions

Director:
Wayne Berwick

Writers:
Thomas Singer
Craig Muckler
Stars:
Jackie Vernon (the voice of Frosty The Snowman)
Loren Schein
Al Troupe

Construction worker Donald is having a hard time getting anything good to eat since his wife has decided to only cook gourmet foods. That and her constant harping cause him to snap, and he whacks her. Somewhere in the confusion he comes up with a new use for the microwave oven, and begins to eat much better. Soon he's experimenting with different recipes. And different meats.

Oh yeah you just can't beat the 80's for movie titles alone. Of course a teen age boy with nothing better to do is going to pick up Microwave Massacre!  And of course this is one of the many to claim Worst Movie Ever made. And its not a Troma film. Rodney Dangerfield was considered for the role of Donald, but his asking salary was too high. And Pee Wee himself Paul Reubens makes a one line cameo in the movie where he discovers May's sister in the closet. The only known actor his Jackie Vernon who was the voice Frosty the Snow Man.

Sadly this movie is so bad I can not find a trailer for it. So if you like Little Shop of Horrors, bad black comedy, and plenty of T&A mixed with no budget and bad acting your in luck this movie is also on DVD! Until next week at the rental store.

Pee Wee to the rescue

Scottish Director Brings Horror to the Highlands with Second Feature ‘Lord of Tears’

Director/producer Lawrie Brewster has completed production on Lord of Tears, a supernatural horror film set in the Scottish Highlands.

Lord of Tears takes its inspiration from the traditional British gothic ghost story, but adds a Celtic twist with its Highland setting and pagan themes. Scriptwriter Sarah Daly describes the film as ‘The Wicker Man meets The Woman in Black’.

Lord of Tears is a startling, psychological, supernatural thriller set against the ominous backdrop of a cursed highland estate. The film stars David Schofield (Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean) Lexy Hulme (500 Days of Summer) and Scottish actor Euan Douglas in his feature debut.

The film tells the chilling story of James Findlay (Douglas), a school teacher plagued by recurring nightmares of a mysterious and unsettling entity. Suspecting that his visions are linked to a dark incident in his past, James returns to his childhood home, a notorious mansion in the Scottish Highlands. There, he finds love in the form of aspiring dancer Evie Turner (Hulme) who helps him to unravel the dark history of the house. But, when James finally uncovers the disturbing truth behind his dreams, he must fight to survive the brutal consequences of his curiosity…

Director Lawrie Brewster says of the film ‘With this film I wanted to tell the type of story I enjoy watching, the creepy type of thriller that gets under your skin, with unexpected twists, and memorable and disturbing supernatural inspired imagery. We take inspiration from classic British chillers such as The Haunting and The Legend of Hell House whilst adding our own, Scottish Celtic twist to the mix.

Writer/Director team Sarah Daly and Lawrie Brewster have worked together on a number of projects including their debut feature White Out and the festival favourite Morgan M. Morgansen short films starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Channing Tatum and Lexy Hulme.

Lord of Tears takes advantage of the stunning and often brutal scenery of the Scottish Highlands, mirroring the conflict between the refined and the primal aspects of humanity – a theme explored throughout the film. The film also features a dark and broody original soundtrack by Craig Sutherland and Andy McDonald of Megalith Music.

The cinematography by Gavin Robertson in this trailer is mind bending and the art direction and directing style of Lawrie Brewster makes me want more! This truly looks the way a ghost story should. Currently Brewster is trying to get this gem into your hands through kick start so if you feel the same way that I do head on over to KICKSTART.com. Or watch the video below this is one creepy movie to add to your fall play list.
